Default BPL: Internet thru power outlet

Whats the deal? Is this tech dead before it got started?

I think a 3rd player in the internet market is exactly what Canada needs... if this tech is even on the way, that is.

Mostly used in Powerline Ethernet for home use, like this. Have not heard of another actual application for it.

They do work (the home ones), they can be a smidge twitchy. The Belkin ones Rathji linked to require you to setup instead of just plug and play. I have 4 different types and only the speedy Belkins require initial setup (they had them on Dell days of deals).

A buddy has one he uses for his HTPC. He says you need to be careful, some things like surge protection power bars can block the signal. But if you get it on one circuit, it works better than wifi.

It says in every manual that you need to plug them directly into the power port, not a power bar first.

Also the Belkins linked to above run very hot, thats normal according to Belkin due to their cooling system.

I have got it to work in an apartment that dont have individual power circuits for every suite but it was twitchy. In a house or condo with its own closed power circuit there are no issues.
