I will always remember him getting a 16 save shutout against the Oilers. Post game he chuckled when the interviewer commented on how easy that shutout was. E=NG.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding this, but it saves the organization $2.5 million in actual dollars.

Lundqvist will not be playing in any major role on the team going forward. $2.5 million, especially in a season with reduced revenue, is a lot of money.

Yeah I see him retiring, or going to a real Cup contending team.

I'm surprised they bought out a player who I thought was very special to that club. Kind of an unceremonious way to come to an end.

Question regarding buy-outs:
-if he was playing, his $8.5M salary would be adjusted to reflect the league's overall revenue (72% of salary = $6.1M). Based on the reduced revenue projections from COVID, all salaries will likely take a hit in the upcoming two years.
-In the event of a buyout, the team has to pay the player two-thirds of their contract, or in this case approx. $5.6M over 2 years

My question is, is the buyout amount subject to reduction as well? Are these amount linked to HRR? Is it possible that buy-outs will actually collect more money than if they had played?

I would assume that the Rangers are more concerned about saving some cap space than they are about saving a little cash.

He was/is, and I would expect they discussed this with him prior to announcing.

That is also why I doubt very much that he signs elsewhere.

That’s a great question. Simply put are buyouts subject to escrow as well right?

Exactly, escrow was the word I was forgetting.

Do you think his twin has a complex? To be that good looking, or that close to good looking, and still play second fiddle? That stuff creates super villains.

Buyouts are subject to escrow.

Lundqvist's salary is $4.5M +$1M signing bonus (presumably already paid), so it costs NYR $3M instead of $4.5 (before escrow)

I think they'd be better off with the extra 1.5 in space next year compared to saving 3M this year, unless maybe they try to sign Krug and trade Deangelo.

A smidge under $13M of buyouts on NYR's cap this year. Has to be a record...any idea what the previous single year high was?

Yeah, heard that on the radio broadcast a few minutes ago. Puzzling as to why a championship calibre team who needs a strong goaltender would choose him in this market where goaltending can be had?

It can't be had for less than $2M w/o giving up major assets.

Matt Murray for starters can likely be had for a song. MA Fleury too (though probably a heavier price tag). Lundqvist is a backup for any team in the league. Why would Washington make him their starter when they're in a win-now mode and don't have the best defence?
