Things are believed to be intensifying in Arizona on the OEL front, however, unless something changes, the Oilers have been told they’re not on the short list of teams OEL will waive his trade protection to go to.
|
Honestly that's semi-disappointing...
The Oilers are already in cap jail and getting OEL would've cemented cap hell for the foreseeable future.
Not to mention the assets Edmonton would've given up to take on his bad contract.
Sigh.

It is okay to have Gio play a non-contact game as one of the oldest players in the league but he won't succeed as Grandpa smurf.

Don't disagree.
Even Tampa d-core was more physical this year than last with Sergachev and Cernak taking a bit of a step. Plus adding Schenn/Bogosian. To your point it freed up Hedman a bit having a more physical d-core.
We do need two RH d-men, and physicality should be a focus. Not just to help protect Gio, but we have Valimaki, Kylington, and Mackey as young guys that we need to help provdie some shelter for on the blueline.
I do think the Flames look at guys like Gudas, Demelo, and potentially Ristolainen if Buffalo is selling low.

That sucks. Wanted Oilers to further themselves into cap hell. Also don’t want any chance of Calgary picking him up at current cap hit.

Meh, it is also possible OEL could have worked out for them. IMO this is the most hilarious, painful, and less risky option for us flames fans: not even players desperate to turn their career image around are willing to go to Edmonton to do it.

Yeah, not being qualified doesn't mean he won't be signed. Holland has issues with being too loyal to his guys and AA is one of them.

I wonder if it's more OEL doesn't want to play for Tippett again.

I have to imagine it's more so about having to live in the grossest city in the NHL.

OEL would have put them in cap hell but also helped that team at least in the short term. Ultimately I think this is a good thing, he would've been an upgrade for them.

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Ekman-Larsson's list (for now) is believed to include BOS & VAN. Things can always change.

I want him to go to Boston. Let them spend their cap on OEL and keep them away from Hall.

I want to see the bruins remain top tier, just to see leaf fans have to live with the fact that they will have to live with being the 3rd best team in the division, almost regardless of what they pull off given their cap structure

I understand, but if he's not qualified, it's open season. They've given up 2 2nds for the right to be like everyone else.

Vancouver would be hilarious, they've definitely lose 2 of Markstrom, Toffoli and Tanev.

Ekman-Larsson - Myers would be one of the most overpaid, past its prime pairings in hockey.

Sure, but you don't just qualify him because you made a bad trade. That shouldn't even be factored into the decision.

If Larsson comes I don't think we keep any of them unless Loui is going back the other way.
I want nothing to do with this.

If OEL goes to Vancouver and costs them Tanev, I wouldn't mind adding him to play with Hanifin on the second pairing. He'd be a good stop gap if indeed Valimaki or Mackey are top 4 ready sooner than later.
