Chicago Blackhawks are banning fans from bringing headdresses at all official sanctioned events. They are also starting a few initiatives to educate on Native American culture.

It is interesting how the Blackhawks seem to have dodged this controversy whenever it re-appears. I think it's mostly because their name doesn't contain a slur/and their logo is not so much a caricature (like the Indians' logo). It's not much different than the Washington Football Teams logo, but it's really the name that's a big problem there. It's interesting that the KC Chiefs and Atlanta Braves are also dodging this.
This logo has always been floated when talking about the Blackhawks. It's cool, but still contains Native American imagery as does the name. Sounds like they have done a lot of talking with the Native communities around them and seem to have their support so that's probably where it ends up being considered alright.

I hope they engage the indigenous leadership on this and find a way forward. The logo is pretty respectful but there have definitely been some really faux pas by the team in the past.
MJ has a very minute native population. This will not go over well a lot of the community. The facebook posts I'm seeing already are not in favor.

If I were the Warriors I would just go back to that moose logo.

Truculent!

Such a strange complexity with this kind of stuff. Clearly white people fetishizing historical Native American and Canadian warriors, and yet with all the fetishizing of them, can't seem to carry over that respect to the actual people in question.

I think you may be thinking about the Macho Man, but their ring rink entrance would be outstanding.

You're trying to tell me a guy that legally changed his name to Warrior may have had a screw loose?

I never said he had a screw loose, I mean he did but that's not why he was a terrible person. The two are not synonymous.

The comment was firmly tongue in cheek, but sometimes lunacy begets awfulness.
He was a crazy, selfish person who also believed "queering doesn't make the world work".

New York Times reporting that the Cleveland MLB team will be dropping "Indians" from their name.
EDIT: Here's a Sportsnet link (NYT is behind a paywall for me).

In the same vein, Canada should probably rename the Indian Act.
