Sure, but does he want to sign a PTO with the Flames?

Is Morrow better? Younger sure, but anyone signed on a PTO is 6/7 D at best. MacDonald on a PTO is fine.

Joe Morrow also probably still wants a shot at regular NHL minutes and might not be willing to take just a PTO at this point.
He's meant to be a potential 7, 8, 9 d-man that has NHL experience. Nothing to get too worked up about.

He’s not that bad. He was hated because he was making 5.5 mil and is a bottom pairing quality guy
But who can hate a bottom pairing quality guy on a PTO...
He plays both sides too

Didn't mean to come across as worked up.
Morrow seems like a fit even if it were a 1 or 2 way deal. Western Canadian, played in two Canadian markets, would likely be under $1M (so would Macdonald mind you).

Treliving seems to value veteran defensemen with experience in the bottom pairing rotation. I don't see any harm in taking a look as maybe he can be a fit as a rotational guy on the cheap and if he doesn't flash anything they can move on.

Payback to Philly for their signing of Brian Elliott?

My favourite time of the year.
Right between "Get overly worked up about no-news" time and "Get overly worked up about training camp performance" time.

This is definitely not a reflection of the last placed prospect pool.
Definitely.

With Hanifin, Valimaki, Andersson, and Kylington the Flames have one of the best collection of young defensemen in the entire league
So no, this PTO really isn’t a reflection of anything except maybe the Valimaki injury

Of course there are posters freak out about a PTO signing.
If anything, we should be happy that the Flames are giving marginal veteran defensemen a try as opposed to spending assets to acquire a veteran.
Kylington has a better chance at beating out a Macdonald than someone who is going to cost an asset to acquire.
I hope we see at least another veteran defensemen signed on a PTO.

McQuaid would be cool for the right side. He’s like Prout but actually plays with an edge
Kylington should be able to beat out anyone who is signing a PTO, but the depth is good to have and I’m not convinced Valiev is NHL quality even on a fill-in basis so Macdonald might play some games.

A PTO and #6/#7 if he has good showing. Not too worried.

interesting that Petrovic signed a PTO with the Bruins couple days ago. Maybe this is plan B for Calgary.

Well.... there are also 31 other teams and players get to choose if they get a couple offers.
If you were a bubble D man in the NHL, do you think Calgary is one of the best places to try and make a roster???
