That seems like a bargain. 41 pts in 71 games at 22. (Although he looks 40)

I'm not that amazed. He had a good season last year at 21. But really, it's only his first full season so there's a pretty big question about whether that's indicative. The hope is, I guess, that he improves on 14 goals. For comparison's sake, Jankowski had 17 at age 22.

That said, he's a pretty important piece going forward.

I think he's a decent player but is getting ice time and opportunities well above his abilities likely, so he'll get decent points.

Think when Stajan was getting 50 points per season.

If you do that on the first line with PP opportunities, you're team is in the bottom of the league.

Wait, an RFA signed? Did I miss the Marner signing?

Great comparison IMO

That is a rich contract for a player who is still fairly new to the NHL. It can become a steal though, if White continues on his trajectory.

His old teammate Tuch got a seven year contract extension for 4.75M after a single 15-22-37 season, including some NTC once eligible. Probably the closest comparable and exact same cap-hit so shouldn't be surprising.

I do like the massive jump the last year, pretty obvious that the Senators are at least anticipating paying him an average of 4.45M for the first 5 years than moving him that last.

I hope this gets the ball rolling (though doubt it) for more RFA signings.

Don’t know if I’ve watched a Sens game where Flames weren’t playing in a few years...

With that said, is this a Lindholm type bargain? Certainly more risk there as he has only one NHL reason so the trajectory is a bigger question mark.

It doesn't always happen but players White's age tend to get better over time. Usually these kinds of deals work out really well for the team. Granted, if a team was going to screw this up, it would be the Sens

Well he's not a comparable to the higher profile RFAs. But at least it isn't a ridiculously rich deal that would bolster the arguments of better players' agents.

The risk is gifting a player 1st line ice time and PP time by default and watching him put up 50 points as your team sinks to the bottom of the league.

I’m not saying that will be White but his point total last year wasn’t particularly impressive considering his opportunities.

And this signing has zero effect on the premium RFA’s.

This contract brings into the discussion what the impact of the Overall team has on the individual goals and pts.

The Flames had over 50% of their roster have career years. Gio a solid 40-50 Pt scorer previous career year was 56pts On the super juiced Flames last year he beat this by 18 pts.

Tkachuk's 77 pts last season were very similar to Gio's 74 -- Tkachuk 24 on the pp Gio 21.

Is Tkachuk a 77-80 pt producer long term or is he a 56 - 60 pt guy?

What sort of pts would have Tkachuk put up on the Ottawa team ... certainly not 77. Mark Stone had 73 pts between Ottawa/Vegas. Duchene 70 Ott/CBJ.

What sort of pts would Colin White put up on last year's Flames in place of Tkachuk? certainly more than his 41.

Same goes for a lot or the elite UFAs ... Rantanen played the whole year with Mackinnon/Landeskog. Conner w/ Schiefele/Wheeler.

Does Brayden point put up 92 pts without Kucherov as a regular linemate?
