Pfft. I vote by the vehicle they choose to parade around in. No truck nuts, no vote!

They should. But given how much time/attention/competence the average voter spends on it they probably won't. Having the NDP brand on the Alberta version of the party is almost certainly a mistake, they've moved away from some of the Federal parties issues (ie opposing pipelines) but kept the name.

It's not only about opposing pipelines. Singh has openly said he would shut down the oilsands and fossil fuel industry in Canada. Yes it's a major issue to fly the NDP brand in Alberta. This thread is largely an echo chamber for those that hate the UCP but you can understand that it's pretty difficult for a lot of Albertans to vote for a party associated with Singh after some of the idiotic things he has said over the years regarding Canada's O&G industry. Not sure how well a CP provincial party would fare in Ontario if say the Conservative leader of the day said stupid things like declaring he would shut down the manufacturing industry in Ontario. Singh has done the Alberta NDP's zero favors.

Not just associated, but the actual same party. The NDP is the one party where if you're a provincial member, you're a federal member as well. The other parties are affiliated in name only.

There were apparently five entries into the essay contest. Here are the other two that didn't win:

First one was probably too empathetic and pragmatic for the UCP, can't have that. Second one just (indirectly) called them out on their bull####. But hey, who can resist the temptation for more Alberta babies, less foreigners, and a certain place for women in the workplace...

I wonder if there were 5 entries. Or if there were only 2, so the UCP had some summer student bang out three more? Never mind the content, those three "winners" were all poorly written and had a very similar style.

When in power, Notley stood in opposition to Singh a couple of times, and the policies didn't mesh with the federal platform. Doesn't a membership just give voting rights to the holder, and having Albertans voting might make the federal NDPs a little less crazy?

The top 3 reminded me of something a child from A Handmaid’s Tale would conjure up.

That could all be the case and it still doesn't change that fact.

Smith, brings on a Devin Dreeshen and gets endorsed by Kaycee Madu. I really hope she doesn't get to be Premier.

Your name calling which only a Libtard could find juvenile, sure adds to the credibility of your analysis.

Expecting Danielle Smith to ever learn anything is unrealistic...but did she not see how badly moves like this worked out for Jim Prentice?

I think all this discussion is way over the level of the average voter. They're not considering whether it's relevant that the Alberta NDP membership has federal voting rights and whether Notley disagreed with Singh.
The level of analysis is:
NDP==bad
There are enough voters who think that way (and no credible challenge for the voters in their base it might annoy) that changing the name is 100% the right move.
