Trans Mountain issued a statement on what happened, confirming the incident happened at the Westridge marine terminal.
“An employee of a contractor working on the Trans Mountain Expansion Project at the Burnaby Terminal was seriously injured in an incident Tuesday afternoon. The individual remains in hospital in stable condition and our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. All construction operations in the Lower Mainland have been immediately suspended and Trans Mountain is fully cooperating with WorkSafeBC and the Canada Energy Regulator.”

The link I've copied below provides an excellent summary of driving forces, benefits, and economic outlook on the TransMountain Expansion Pipeline (TMEP). It really does address, factually, why they are proceeding and counters a lot of the "fluff" and "noise" from those predominantly eastern windbags / media narratives and folks who think green energy starts up at 100% capacity/utilization the millisecond hydrocarbon utilization falls to 0% (which is an absolute impossibility, obviously).

Dang it. I really wanted that to go ahead. At least the IPL facility is going to come online in 2023.

Looks like Keystone is getting killed Day 1.
So here is where I am really upset with how bad the Liberals botched our economy. They killed Northern Gateway which was approved. They purposely dragged out Energy East. Yet are now hoping a foreign power will approve Keystone.
We had two in our control, and put our horses on one out of it? That is insane.
What caused the Liberals to back Keystone anyways. Is it even genuine? Is it the massive deficit combined with massive reduction in revenue? Or do they know it will be killed but hope this is a pander move to Alberta?
I can’t make sense of this “country” anymore.

Just wait until Line 5 gets shut down and Ontario and Quebec's flow of Oil grinds to a stop and the refineries that service that oil come to a screeching halt.
I guess they'll buy more oil from other countries.

The Liberals opposed Northern Gateway because it was pandering to get BC votes.
Keystone XL was easy to support, because the Canada-side of the line is within Alberta and Saskatchewan. They weren't going to lose votes in BC (or any other provinces) over it, because British Columbians generally don't give a **** about pipelines elsewhere in Canada.

You can’t make sense of it because for Alberta it is not a functioning country anymore.

I hope they sue the crap out of US under NAFTA.
This is specifically the type of thing NAFTA is supposed to prevent. US oil is piped freely while Canadian oil is stopped.

Its kinda funny because now we've lost any economic benefit to it, but we've also seen the end of our own energy independence with the Line 5 decision.
We not only have no sure way of getting out energy to markets, but we can't even supply other provinces properly.
Its a laughable joke.

Link to the XL mic-drop: https://energynewsbeat.com/2021/01/d...g-keystone-xl/
We have to wait quite a bit for TransMountain expansion project to the west coast tidewater to be complete. That new pipeline is already 80% contractually full so no doubt it'll get a boost. But this pipeline definitely will not be able to service the full demand given XL's status.

Trudeau and the east have zero issues with importing Middle Eastern oil. I'm pretty sure they would rather increase their relationship and reliance on Saudi oil than deal with those rednecks in Alberta.

Did line 3 clear the last of its road blocks in the US in December? Or can that one still be stopped?

If by road blocks, approval, but the lawsuits are being filed now. With one being filed 3 weeks ago.

The Wall Street Journal has a report tonight that TC is committing to spend $1.7bn on wind, solar and battery power to run the pipeline as well as hire union labour to build it. They say they’ll eliminate all greenhouse gas from the project by 2030. Trudeau has said this is one of his top priorities with the Biden administration and the ambassador to the US noted that emissions from the oilsands have dropped by 1/3rd since 2000.
The unions in the US are onside, and it will be quite interesting to see how this plays out. I hope it’s not dead, and it might not be with these new measures.

It seems as though a lot of the world feels about oil the way a lot of Albertans feel about coal mining on the Eastern Slopes.

I don’t disagree, but the reality is we’re not in a position to just stop using fossil fuels in general. It’s pure fantasy at this point. I think we all know it’s coming, and everyone is working toward that, but in the meantime it’s impossible to live without enormous disruption without fossil fuels.
