Good choice; I like her quite a bit. She's smart, well spoken, and very much in touch with the city on multiple levels.

She was also asked to release details of her salary, and declined to do so, claiming that it wasn't necessary to do that.

When the topic of salary comes up, it's always a difficult one to address. Damned if she does, damned if she doesn't.
It's unfortunate and unfair. I don't think the majority of people understand just how much talent it takes to run an organization like this and how expensive that talent is...

So what’s the benefit to Calgary infrastructure in a multi city bid? It seems like leveraging a lot of newer infrastructure already in place in Vancouver/Edmonton, so what would Calgary get? Why even be a part of this?

I have no interest in a multi city bid. What’s the point of even having it then?

I was 100% on board until they started talking about the other cities. I don’t think it’s purely selfish, but I have no interest in watching hockey or other events get split among Edmonton/Whistler/Calgary or whatever the plan is. For me that’s a non-starter.

Fully agree. I’m onboard as long as we are not splitting with other cities. The main reason why I want to host the Olympics is because we should be getting some provincial and federal cash for infrastructure projects. If we are not getting anything new (stadium, field house, arena) than I will vote no. I don’t want want to host if Edmonton is going to get their greasy hands on anything as well. It should be Calgary and Canmore period. I could live with Whistler having the ski jumping, but absolutely no one else.

I'd be OK with Whistler getting the ski jumps, and probably Nordic combined as that makes sense. Everything else should be Canmore/Calgary/ski hill.

I know nothing of the cost or demand, but wouldn't it make sense to rebuild the ski jumps here locally? I know COP no longer has the footprint needed, but surely somewhere in Canmore or Nakiska/K-country could be an okay spot? That keeps all the winter sport training in our region and centralized.

They cost a lot of money though, it's a very small sport and I'm not sure Canada has need for 2 training facilities.

Whistler I can understand. If it's gonna cost $100M or to build something locally that will practically get absolutely no use after the games is done, then it's better to spend that money elsewhere. I wonder if there's a way to make a temporary ski jump though, because I'm finding it difficult to wrap my head around hosting a single event so damn far away from the actual host city. Flying doesn't make it that long to get there, but it kinda seems pointless to even bother with the event though.
Calgary will be getting a new arena in time for these Olympic games though, and the fieldhouse should be built with the original intention of twin ice arenas; where one of the rinks has a decent enough capacity seating for smaller scale events. So with that, I don't see the need to share with Edmonton or any other city for hockey/other ice events.

Yeah, that's basically my position as well. If Calgary is going to bid to host the games then CALGARY should host the games to the maximum extent that it can. Spreading out the games beyond a few ski events that we realistically can't accommodate is a non-starter (automatic "no" vote) for me.

Add me to the "Calgary only" crowd.
Are we going to know the details of the bid before this plebiscite?

The upside of a multi-city bid is (I assume) all costs are spread out evenly among the cities, which is a big factor given they will most likely blow the budget
The downside is that Vancouver/Whistler are not even close to Calgary so most would be looking at flights instead of driving if they wanted to see multiple events in different cities
