Very nice good for him, he's Calgary's best prospect in my opinion. His offense really hasn't progressed in the AHL but I can see him as a poor man's Jason Smith.

Jason Smith was an offensive catalyst in Juniors and it never transitioned to the NHL level.

TJ Brodie at the moment looks like he can use some work offensively, but he is good enough defensively to become an NHL player.

If his offense doesn't turn around then I can see him changing his game.

What in the world are you talking about?

He was sent down to the AHL to work on his defensive game.
His offensive game is fine. He has 23 points in 48 games. Putting him 6 points behind the team leader while playing 7 less games.

His defensive game has always been great positionally with the Colts.

If his offensive game doesnt translate, I can see him similar to Jason Smith since his defense has been decent in Juniors.

May have confused everyone a bit.

First off, that's great that Brodie's defensive game was great positionally with the Colts, but he only played half a season in Barrie. Plus that's junior, big difference playing pro.

I see no similarities between Brodie and Smith. Smith was an old style defensive defenseman, who was gritty and worked hard, but lacked mobility.

Brodie is a mobile puck mover, with offensive capabilities....and is working on his defensive game in the AHL in order to become a well rounded defenseman.

Those two are polar opposites IMO.

TJ with Barrie

46 reg season games 38 pts
17 playoff games 15 pts

TJ with Abby

49 games 23 points, 4th leader in points, played 7 less games that other three leaders.

What are you talking about??

TJ needs to work on his defense and be a more well rounded 'offensive D-man' which is what Playfair is doing with him now. His 'offensive' game isn't physical enough for NHL. I think you may have it backwards?

An Oilers fan trying to school us on defensive prospects. That's rich.

TJ will be awsome. On a side note, I really have no idea how or why someone would compare Brodie to Jason Smith. Considering of course that they had seen both of them play hockey. Pelech you might get away with comparing to Smith... maybe. Brodie, no.

I'm curious about that too. Even if Brodie's game doesn't translate, Smith was always more of a gritty "in the trenches" type of player...and by virtue of Brodie's size alone, I don't think he could ever play like him.
