I love how worlds of DC is shaping up, each individual character gets their own specific tone. Aquaman and Shazam are much more light and then you get this most likely R rated Joker film. I prefer dark and gritty comic book films and this looks like something that I will absolutely love.
director, Denis Villeneuve, did an incredible job handling the sequel to another sci-fi property that inspires similarly extreme protectiveness from fans: "Blade Runner," directing that film in 2017. Despite serious misgivings over whether a "Blade Runner" sequel could ever be worthy of the original, Villeneuve proved beyond a shadow of doubt that the franchise was in the right hands.
In addition, the recent casting announcements have also met with much approval from "Dune's" feverish fan base.
Josh Brolin has signed on to play Gurney Halleck, the role previously played by Patrick Stewart; Oscar Isaac will make a formidable Duke Leto Atreides, previously played by Jürgen Prochnow; Jason Momoa will play Duncan Idaho, previously played by Richard Jordan; Dave Bautista will take on the meaty role of Glossu "Beast"' Rabban; Javier Bardem will play Stilgar; Stellan Skarsgård will play the delicious role of Baron Harkonnen … and on it goes. It's truly a dream cast.
"Dune" is being filmed on location in Budapest, Hungary, and Jordan and is slated for a Nov. 20, 2020, worldwide release.

I said it before but DC films right now....
I think DC films are benefiting from the lowered expectation brought about by MoS, BvS, and Justice League. Wonder Woman was pretty good, but I'd put it on par with the second tier of Marvel movies. Aquaman was a commercial success but it wasn't a great movie by any stretch. Suicide Squad was crap.
I have to give DC some credit though. I never thought I'd be so bored with a comic book movie that I'd turn it off halfway through, and yet MoS, BvS, and Aquaman all did the trick for me.
Shazam comes out this week? The Rotten Tomatoes score is still pretty impressive at 93% with 132 reviews in so far and counting.
We've always used this as a bench mark to measure Marvel's success of films in this thread, so we will definitely be giving credit to DC on this one if that continues, still a lot of reviews to go though. The most common word I've seen to describe it is 'refreshing' when referring to the plethora of comic book movie origin stories out there to date.

Anyone watch Doom Patrol last night, they played their first two episodes.
It was a little weird, the characters were strange. Brandon Frazier looks completely different from his Mummy days.
But at some levels I actually liked it.
I'm hooked. I'm on episode 6 or 7 now. I find every episode has a different feel to it and keeps it refreshing. It's so totally out there and it works. It's a must watch for Sci-Fi peeps. Yes, I consider it more Sci-Fi than Comic Book style....
Really digging that Joker trailer. I didn't know how to feel about the movie from what they'd previously released. This really puts it all together though. Jaquin Pheonix looks like he really gets it.
He's put out a dozen or more books and other stuff to try and squeeze out some more money from the Dune universe, and they're terrible (or at least the ones I've read, I gave up a while ago). Turned Dune into little more than a bunch of Star Trek novels IMO, or fan fiction.

That's pretty interesting, thanks Photon. Fortunately besides being in the information loop it doesn't seem like he's involved in any way.
Amazing cast, director Denis Villeneuve, Hans Zimmer doing the score, split into two films.. can't wait.
