Very awkward after the team wins their first 3-0 sweep.

Kind of sad, too.

Closer to Calgary?

There was some discussion of Salt Lake Utah or Colorado Springs.

Bad timing for this to leak now of course.

There's also talk or divisional realignment. With Coachella Valley coming into the league, there's a lot of teams in California now. Likely some team ends up in the Central division.

Calgary Flames will be relocating their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate from Stockton and moving it into Canada - and into the Calgary area, specifically - for the 2022-23 season.

from the article:

"multiple sources have reached out to Inside AHL Hockey over the past few weeks indicating the expectation is the Calgary Flames will be relocating their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate from Stockton and moving it into Canada - and into the Calgary area, specifically - for the 2022-23 season."

Yes... I see the report now. Calgary is interesting. The Saddledome I presume. Typical AHL arena seating capacity is in the 6000 and up range.

I wonder if they saw Winnipeg juggling an AHL, NHL, and WHL team and figured they could do that here too?

I’d love their AHL team to come here.

I'd love the heat here. I'd get seasons right away.

Vancouver and Abbotsford as well.

I remember thinking Saskatoon would be a good place for a Flames affiliate. It's close enough and would be a good place to spread the Flames market. I doubt a lot of people in Stockton or anywhere else the affiliate has been lately, became Calgary Flames supporters just because our prospects played there.

The idea was usually shot down because people said that the AHL wouldn't move to a WHL city, but I guess that isn't the case if this rumour is true.

I would also be interested in season tickets if the Heat moved here.

Calgary Heat and Calgary Flames. I like it. And I think the Heat would have a fairly large following, I could easily see them doing Roughnecks numbers with 10,000 per game (they average 9,994).

If they do move one thing I hope they change is the name. Heat is a terrible name.

I can definitely see myself going to a few games if they move to the city. Could they be in Lethbridge or Red Deer? It does say Calgary area, and not specifically Calgary.

Stockton attendance has fallen every season since their 1st; they average under 2000 this season

Regina could support an AHL team, travel might be difficult though. Or Saskatoon but they have The Rush

Yeah, it was always a matter of time with Stockton. I was surprised they went back there after the pandemic season.

The Hitmen typically draw around 7000. An AHL would likely cut into that substantially.

Maybe the Hitmen move to the Tsuut'ina Sportsplex? That's only 2000 seats though.

I think it will be too much for the Calgary area. Attendance will be Hitmen level or less. If they last five years here I'd be shocked.
