That was technically a merger with the North Stars.

Question is whether there is anyone out there right now looking to pay going rate for an NHL franchise. There has been zero talk or rumors that I have heard.

There hasn't been a lot of noise, but who knows what goes on behind the scenes. The Pens sold not that long ago for a hefty sum. They were of course purchased by a sports conglomerate, and not just some dude with a lot of money. They also purchased a relatively stable franchise, at least at the moment... although Pittsburgh has had its market struggles in the past.
I can't see anyone really wanting the Coyotes that badly unless they can be moved, but the NHL seems really against moving them at all costs. The question I have, is what happens if they can't pay their players and staff next season? They already had some issues regarding that. This ASU plan has zero room for failure.

If that's what they're charging, especially considering the product, you may want to retract that statement.

From what I've heard the Coyotes players aren't happy because they have to play through this gong show (short term) but most won't even be around if/when the new arena is built in Tempe (long term)

A lot of the Coyotes' players have no business being in the NHL in the first place. My sympathy for them is sharply limited.

Playing at a university campus is frankly embarrassing and you can't imagine accomplished long time pros like Kessel are impressed.

They couldn't sell out before, so they sell 1/4 the tickets at 4 times the price....genius.

Kessel is UFA after this year. He won't have to play there. Nor will about half the Coyotes' current roster.

That price map doesn't even make sense, they are charging the most for obstructed view seating when all of the seats are close to the ice. In my estimation the reds and blues are the best seats in the house.

Someone should do some digging in the Houston area and see if Toyota Center has a large block of TBA bookings.

It is gonna work and Phoenix is good hockey market, this reminds me of when the Montreal Alouettes were forced to go from the Olympic Stadium to a very outdated and small stadium but one which was centrally located and it reinvigorated the franchise

Is it? 7,000 TV viewership, most of them probably being snowbirds.

This won't be a problem if there's a GUARATEE that the Coyotes will be playing in a new ~15K capacity arena within 24-36 months (from today to opening date). But if that doesn't happen, the NHL gotta GTFO from there, and go to Houston or a city that's ready now. (Kansas City or Quebec)
