Flames Most fans in Alberta? Oilers or Flames?

Which team has the most fans in the province of Alberta?

I'm curious to see the geographical map of the fanbases. We know the oilers own the city of edmonton, the flames own the city of calgary....but I'm talking more about the rest of the province, like northern alberta, central alberta, southern alberta, Lethbridge, Red Deer, Camrose, Airdrie, Medicine Hat, Grande Prairie....

Which fanbase has a stronger presence on enemy soil: oilers fans living in calgary or flames fans living in edmonton?

Which city is more passionate for its team, Calgary or Edmonton?

Which team has the most passionate fanbase?

The youngest fans, the oldest fans?

I love to know the makeup of sport fanbases...

I think there's more Oiler fans in the province. As far as passion goes, just because of the 80s the Oilers have a more cemented base of die hards.

Oilers have more total fans by a lot.

There aren’t a ton of reasons to be hyped about the Calgary Flames in the last 30 years, especially if you don’t have a connection to this town.

But they’re ours. That’s what makes them special.

Yeah, I don't think it is even close. There are tonnes of Oilers fans everywhere. Flames fans are a select group of the elite—membership is limited.

I’d say it’s fairly close in Alberta. In the rest of Canada we are badly outnumbered though.

Every year I see more and more McDavid jerseys at the outdoor rinks. McDavid’s reaching a new generation of fans, despite the Oilers ineptitude. Flames have done nothing for three decades and have little to be excited about these days.

I don’t think it is even remotely close. Oilers have most areas outside of Edmonton in the majority. Northern Alberta is almost all Oil and I think Medicine Hat is heavy Oil (at least it was when I was a kid). Lethbridge may be a split as is Red Deer. Even Calgary is full of Oiler fans as people move away from that dump to live in the better city.

There is no way, almost any small town leans Oilers from what I have seen. Sask leans heavily Oilers as well.

So a Stanley Cup final is nothing? Good lord your posts are incredibly repetitive and annoying. We get it you hate the Flames and feel entitled to watch a better team. No one is stopping you from cheering for another team.

Oilers by quite a bit.

They have been around longer and achieved a lot of success early on. That breeds lifers.

For sure there are way more Oiler fans in Alberta than Flames fans. Up north, it's almost exclusively Oiler fans. In the south, I'd say the mix is 50/50 at best, with probably a slight lean towards the Oilers as well. Even now, there would be way more chances of a young kid idolizing McDavid or Draisaitl over any of the players on the Flames, so I don't see this changing anytime soon.

All this is just anecdotal from my observations, mind you.

Calgary has never been a “deeply Oilers town” or even an Oilers town. Flames fans just don’t wear their team logo on all their clothes.
