TSN just showed a statistic that said since 1955 among goaltenders who have player at least 36 games (his total) in the playoffs, he has the 2nd best save % among all of them
Almost to a man, there isn't much there, unless of course you compare the 3rd best forward (Lindhom vs Hyman). So it's a wash pretty much everywhere, but the Flames have 1 BIG overmatch
For Dmen it looks like this:
Edm Cgy differential (+ is better for Edm, - is better for CGY)
So everyone in Edmonton talks about how the Flames are overmatched in high end talent.
Well we have 3 defenseman who outmatch their counterpart to the same extent that McDavid and Draisaitl outmatch Gaudreau and Tkachuk.
Match up top to bottom, it's pretty close to a wash, with the big exception being the Oilers have 2 clear cut first liners, and the Flames have 3.
We keep seeing arguments that the Oilers have better top end talent.
Well they have the best and 3rd best players (Point wise), but the Flames have 3 legitimate stars.
We also see arguments that the Oilers have better depth.
At best it's a wash, and if you stop at the only two clear cut stars for the Oilers as your cutoff for top end talent, then Lindholm is a depth scorer, and the Oilers have nothing to match him.
Does this mean we'll win for sure?
Nope, but it means anyone who is arguing that the Oilers are the clear favorite in any team category (with respect to scoring), clearly isn't looking at the numbers.
Anyone arguing that the oilers have a better offence should be directed to the goals for column in the standings. And for good measure, told to have look at the column immediately to its right.

ya, if that happens then this should be the chant, "Leave him in!, Leave him in!"

Of course better to leave him in if he's playing badly. But I think it's more damaging to his psycho psyche to pull him. Will pay dividends later in the series.

The long game. Okay. I can dig it.
I just want to blow as many pucks past Smith as we can.

Watched a lot of Tampa/Florida...by any standard that game was a "no-hitter". It just was not heavy physical at all. Saw the first period of Colorado/St Lou and Colorado was throwing a bit of weight around.
We know Sutter and this team will lean on the Oilers as much as they can without taking penalties. Of all people I heard Mark Spector point out its not just a size disparity but all 4 of Calgary's tough guys are 4th liners and 3rd pairings where they should be. He said Nurse is tough but play 25 minutes a night so if Ritchie takes Nurse out Calgary wins. Kanes pretty tough but same diff hes an 18 minute top 6 guy they cant afford to loose. if he scraps Lucic Calgary wins.
If you haven't heard Spectors is taking Calgary to win!

I think we all know Tkachuk is going to become Besties with Kane and McDavid.
Who he focuses on depends on who he gets the reaction from.

Spector also had a really good article on Sportsnet about the BOA today. Most enjoyable one I've read actually.
I predict this BOA will prove to be a unifying force for Alberta, with Oilers fans finally admitting en masse that their team is no good.

I hope like hell Tkachuk is already livin rent free in Smiths cranium.
If so....it wont take long to ignite. A couple whacks, then the blocker punches...and then Flames profit.
I did hear on one of the hundred things on the radio today...maybe it was Seravelli this morning with Boomer....that he was told officials will call the 1st guy every time to start this thing and retaliations would be let go (unless egregious im assuming) to avoid the 4 on 4 stuff and send the message to stick to hockey.
See if/how long it lasts...i like the idea behind it but think implementation will be difficult.
