For the one millionth time, Bobby Orr was a great all-around defenseman. He wasn't just offensive numbers, like a Paul Coffey. Every time I hear people say this, I have to assume they never watched Orr play.

And if there were to be two awards (which I don't agree with) I would go the other way and create a reward for the best defensive dman. The Rod Langway if you will.

If you are going to put Bobby Orr's name on a trophy, it should be for the best overall defenseman.
If you want an award just for points, sure, but don't call it the Bobby Orr award.
If you want an award for the best defensive defenseman, I am all for that. The Rod Langway certainly works. Or the Chris Tanev.

I agree with a Langway award. I would also like some name changes to player awards (to name them after players like with the Richard and Lindsay).

Haha -- fair enough, you can name the trophy whatever you want although naming it after a player (like the "Mark Messier" award) seemed appropriate. Orr was before my time but my understanding is that there was no defenceman with better offensive ability than him.
The point stands -- best offensive defenceman and best overall defenceman. My only concern is whether voters would actually understand/appreciate the difference; also, while I appreciate the Chris Tanev's of the world, I personally think defensive specialists should be considered under the "overall" category, not their own.

Well deserved, I still can’t believe how lopsided that trade ended up being.

Well deserved. Lindy was incredible this season. Just to be in the top 3 is quite an accomplishment and the rest of the league knows how great he is.

Bergeron is gonna win it but I’m glad Lindy was a finalist. His two way play has constantly been overlooked by the league until this year

Congrats to Elias, very much deserved. Based on all the current talk, think I'll wait until the awards are handed out to throw out my thoughts.

Would love to see more recognition for guys like Jordan Staal, Joel Eriksson Ek, Clutterbuck/Cizikas.
I would argue that Backlund is more deserving than Lindholm, given their deployment. Bergeron is a beast, but it's Coyle/Frederic who gets the majority of the defensive draws and tough assignments in Boston these days.

Regardless of where the play starts, I believe a player that plays 20 minutes a game will face more defensive situations than one who plays 15.
Also, Lindholm lead the Flames forwards in PK time.
Although, I do understand wanting to recognize lesser heralded guys

Has a winger ever won the Selke?

Bob Gainey won the most for a winger, Four.
Tied with Bergeron for most Selkes.
