No one sends a letter like that without it being a consensus decision. Not that everyone had to be in on it necessarily but I seriously doubt their PR guy just went rogue.

I like how Linus came out to defend what is essentially his competitor. He knows he's got a massive tech audience (one of the biggest I guess) and used it for good.

When half of Oregon burned down, he made a brand new rig for another competitor channel, who then gifted it to a young kid who's home and PC burned down.

Good guy Linus. One of the best parts of his show is brutal honesty and transparency, especially when it comes to sponsors.

Hopefully this doesn't damage Nvidia too much.

Finally heard back from them, I do get to keep my place in line luckily so it will still be like I ordered this card on Oct 2

I had to make the tough decision to not buy the card I ordered. I managed to find someone who wanted one though.

I’m waiting until CP77 is fixed before I give it another try so I won’t need a card for awhile. I might go with AMD instead.

Arg still so hard to get anything. Can't find a Noctua DH-15 or S chromax in Canada.

I guess the bequiet! Black Rock Pro 4 is probably the next best air cooler?

Also was looking at RAM and I guess if I go with a massive air cooler maybe RGB RAM is a dumb idea, no point.

Scan.co.uk is stating they will be receiving a shipment of 5xxx Series AMD CPUs in the next 2 weeks that will "supply all backorders and then some".

Wonder if this means we'll be seeing a similar delivery in Canada.

They pop up regularly on Amazon. You can order the S right now for a later delivery.

Yeah was hoping for before Christmas, and I want to try something with a glass panel and some RGB. The regular Noctua work great, but they're really ugly

I'll give the bequiet! a try.

So I finally started putting together the system, but I'm running into a problem with the video card. Though it isn't the video card itself.

It's a Gigabyte Aorus Pro AC B550 motherboard. Fresh install of Windows.

Everything boots up but I'm stuck at 800x600. The drivers installed ok, but when I boot the screen goes black. I tried hooking up HDMI instead of display port and it works but at 800x600.

Device Manager says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)."

I removed my 2080 and put in a 980 that I know works and I get the same thing.

Any ideas? Could it be power to the card?

Got this power supply: https://www.silverstonetek.com/produ...id=731&area=en

It's brand new so it should be fine, unless it's defective. Both lights by the power connectors on my 980 light up I assume that means it's getting power.

I used one cable from each of the PCIE connectors on the power supply to go to each of the power connectors on the video card, that's correct? I'm not supposed to use one cable for both of the connectors?

Is there anything weird I have to do in the BIOS?

Sounds like it could be an issue with PCIe. Try a different slot.

Wow good call, moved it to slot 2 and it works fine.

So is that a defective slot? Or do I just have it configured wrong? I'll take a look at the manual.

Yeah I’m guessing the slot is faulty. I can’t think of any BIOS settings that would cause this issue but it doesn’t hurt to check. Make sure the 24 pin connector is seated properly too.

There is one setting that seems to be kind of related:

PCIEX16 Bifurcation
Allows you to determine how the bandwidth of the PCIEX16 slot is divided.
Options: Auto, PCIE 2x8, PCIE 1x8/2x4, PCIE 2x4/1x8. (Default: Auto)

And the 3 slots:
PCIe 1 Slot Sets the graphics card on the PCIEX16 slot as the first display. (Default)
PCIe 2 Slot Sets the graphics card on the PCIEX4 slot as the first display.
PCIe 3 Slot Sets the graphics card on the PCIEX2 slot as the first display.

I guess I could try changing it from Auto to something else.

Also read this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comment...e_bifurcation/

I'll play around with it tomorrow, maybe I can't run the video card with 16 lanes and with that high end SSD?

Maybe, but you got it to display native resolution in the x4 slot so it should work in the first slot even with 8 lanes.

Yeah, I tried some of the settings and it didn't make any difference.

I also moved the SSD to the other m.2 slot which is through the chipset rather than on the cpu and that didn't make any difference either.

I also found a setting where you can specify the generation of the PCIe slot and I changed that to Gen 2 just in case Auto was doing something weird and that didn't make any difference either.

I guess I'm at the point of getting the board exchanged.
