That is the exact look on the faces of the entire Canucks fanbase.

Sign Benning to a 3-Year Extension? Why?

This proofs that us casual internet hockey fans know absolutely NOTHING about the world of hockey management.

First Pierre Dorian signing, now Jim Benning. Next up I bet Chia will get a brand new extension too......

Could be a good deal for the Canucks if he negotiated his own contract.

Makes sense, he's done a very good job for them since he made the mistake of passing on Tkachuk. Objectively speaking, his last year has been quite strong.

Yeah i agree with this. He had some pretty major goofs when he first started, but I actually think he has come into his own a bit.

We probably don't give him enough credit. Especially since we give him no credit. I mean, he sure isn't a leading candidate for top GM but the optics of not renewing him right now when it looks like the Canucks are poised to make strides with the emergence of Boeser, and Pettersson in the wings. They owe it to Benning to see the next few years through before they put the final nail in the coffin of his GM career with the Canucks.

That said, I don't think he'll do that well building the team over the next 3 years. I'm happy with the decision to extend his contract.

Sure we like to poke fun of the moves he's made so far and while there are some questionable ones in terms of contracts handed out and some draft choices, overall I think he's got a solid plan in place that will make Vancouver competitive in 3-4 years.
Which makes sense on the term of the contract. If they're not a playoff contender by then he definitely won't be renewed.

Horrible at trades. Good at the draft. Much like Feaster.

I like the Canucks future much better than the Oilers future - Heck, they are tied with the Oilers in the standings as we speak.

Yeah, at least the Canucks can draft reasonably well.

They're not good with free agent contracts under Benning, nor have they convincingly won any trades, but at least they can draft.

The Oilers can't do ANY of those things well.
