The hope I have is that it was just a pull or cramp that felt terrible when it happened but turned out to be minor.

You thought he'd be doing the splits down the hallway?

He's a warrior and I bet he misses little time. Glad we have the backups/ depth we have . Phew.
We'd be so screwed right now without this. We'll be fine.

frolik needs to put the damned game away there. it's been years of this crap. part of killer instinct is scoring with the other net empty. the number of one goal games the flames are involved in are again inflated by the fact that we are terrible at putting the game away.

sorry needed to get that off my chest

EDIT: moved to PGT upon recommendation

Yeah, no kidding. If only he'd had that killer instinct, he would have put the puck in the net. Guys who want to win never, ever shoot wide, regardless of the circumstances.

Or the Flames could have cleared before that last shot. Or they could have scored on a powerplay earlier. Or Smith could have stopped the easy one at the beginning. It's so stupid to tie Smith's injury to that. Heck, they probably keep the goalie out and for all we know Smith pulls whatever he pulled anyway.

It's not like he meant to miss the net or knew what would happen next.

I agree my first thought was "what if" but you can't get mad throw around blame for something essentially out of anyone's control.

Hopefully both Smith and Lomberg and, after hearing about the Stokton game, Parsons are all ok and not out for long.

I'm not trying to be fanatical here, am i seeing my own confirmation bias on this? one EN goal so far this year and two last year. we play a ton of one goal games. I don't think the point i'm making is "ridiculous"

Smith.

It's the goalie who is in net when the GWG is scored. Ditto on the flip side, he who lets in the winning goal gets the loss.

You are posting in a thread about a players injury...and somehow relating that to a Flames goaltender getting injured, and a lack of killer instinct in a game where the Flames trailed 2-0 and won 3-2 in regulation.

Empty nets are missed all the time, by all teams/players

Ridiculous seems to fit

News Update

Eric Francis @EricFrancis

Watched Mike Smith walk out of the dressing room without a limp, which is good news. Really bad groin pulls can make it hard to walk, which didn't appear to be an issue.

As an expert beer league goalie, I’ve done something similar and it doesn’t look like a groin pull. Could be totally wrong but I think it was just a charley horse because of dehydration.

Smith has had some minor tweaks this season that he's been able to walk off. Hopefully, it's a similar circumstance there. Do worry about the cumulative effects though.

Run with Rittich in the Boston game and see how Smith feels by Thursday in Nashville.
