Doc has become synonymous with hockey in the US. The passion and excitement he brought to calling games undoubtedly secured many, many new fans for this sport. I will genuinely miss the atmosphere he created with his voice and his energy.

Well he doesn't look it, but he is 74. Probably just calling it quits while he's still good rather than going too long like a few other broadcasters tend to. What a career anyway.
