Paire is lucky there was no Italian crowd as the boos and whistles would have been raining down as he essentially mailed it in. Such a baby out there.

Nishikori with his first ATP win in a little over a year - Wearing the compression sleeve on his right arm to protect that elbow.

So apparently the criteria to obtain a wild card was being French

Genie won $14,000 in Istanbul. I would have thought more.

I'm pretty sure her ranking is high enough to automatically enter her into the main draw (after yesterday's win, her ranking is #58)

I think this is normal for a grand slam to have the majority of wildcards go to homelanders? in fact I wonder if the organizers even knew about Genie's most recent result, and instead just looked at her last name and said bien, laisse-la jouer...

Shapo one game away from advancing in Rome as he leads Pells 6-2 5-3 (Pella serving to stay in the match).
Edit: Denis breaks and wins 6-2 6-3

Shapo plays qualifier and former Expos pitcher Pedro Martinez in the next round - Oh wait, being told it's Pedro Martinez Portero

Tough return for Rafa as he's going to play an in-form PCB - Although Pablo might be battling some jet lag.

It's going to be a tough test, PCB looked really good against Shapo and Zverev but he is the only Spanish player who's more comfortable on hard court.

I just took a quick peek at the men's doubles draw and noticed that Milos and Felix are playing doubles together. Shapo and Rohan Bopanna are also in the men's doubles draw in Rome.

A great sign to see Denis manhandle a quality top 30 player like this right after a crushing loss at the US Open. A few key stats to note:
- 4/11 on break points
- 7/3 aces to double faults
- 32/67 points were won on the receiving end
We are witnessing the evolution of a young pro player with all the tools, into a legitimate top 10 player right before our eyes.

A lot of competition for viewership (especially with the NFL just starting up), but no Fed, Rafa, Djoker or Serena is certainly going to impact ratings.

Players are back on court in Rome and Milos leads 5-4 in the opening set (on serve).
Edit: Milos plays a fine tie-breaker winning it 7-3
