This one is a tough one. I was obsessed with Rush as a teen and young adult. I got the pleasure of seeing them 6 times, all in Toronto. I am crushed. RIP to an amazing man, lyricist, and drummer.

Listening to Rush has gotten me through a lot. I'm seriously having trouble with this.

Knowing how much he was enjoying his second chance at a family after his hell of 1997-98, and seeing how he's gone so suddenly...this hurts.

Two songs which are most appropriate right now:

Doesn't get enough credit for his greatness as a lyricist. Everyone knows he's one of the great drummers ever, but his lyrical skills were also top notch.

Oh man. I have the mans portrait on my wall. A musical wonder, lyrical genius and an incredible person. His legendary motorcycle travels were a huge awakening for me as well.

He has had to endure such a tough set of circumstances over the years, it would have already killed lesser men.

May he rest in well earned peace. What a sad day.

My first ever concert at age 13, and have seen them numerous times since. I'm just gutted. Even went to one of their shows when I was in Hawaii in late 1984.

Wow, that is unexpected - I did not know he was sick.

He is very decorated - already awarded the Order of Canada.

Absolutely legendary. He will be missed.

My 8 year old loves to drum (first with chopsticks on the table; Santa just recently gave him a little electronic drum pad) and as this generation tends to do, went to YouTube to find cool drummers/solos. I told him his first stop must be Neil Peart. We were both enthralled by his immense talent.

Cancer sucks. I’d argue top drummer right up their with Neal’s idol Buddy Guy.

Besides his immense drummer skills and precision, he was a master lyricist and writer. If you haven’t read his books I’d strongly recommend doing so. I found them all very interesting.

Story only a Rush fan might appreciate:
Spoiler!

Wow that’s terrible news. Rush seemed to be one of those bands where most people either loved or hated them but I think everyone could agree Neil Peart was an amazing drummer. Glad I was able to catch them live about 10 years ago.
RIP

agree with all that was said.
This one crushes me. can't imagine how those a bit older than me must feel.

I always thought he was the best rock drummer in history.

saw the band only 3 times and really wish I went to more.

One band I never, ever get sick of listening to. fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

I can’t believe it.

Don’t know what to say.

Rush at the Corral back in 1982 was the first concert I ever went to.

It was spectacular.

Pearl Drums

@PearlDrumCorp

Pearl Drums recognizes the passing of lyricist and drumming legend, Neil Peart, and sends condolences to his family, bandmates, and friends all over the world.

Brian Wilson @BrianWilsonLive

I just heard about Neil Peart passing. I feel real bad about this - he was way too young. Neil was one of the great drummers and he’ll be missed. Love & mercy to Neil’s family.

KennyAronoff @AronoffOFFICIAL

Sadly Neil Peart passed away earlier this week. One the greatest drummers of all time. One of the founding members of one of the greatest Rock n Roll bands of all time. Rush @ZildjianCompany @EvansDrumheads @vicfirth @HumesandBerg

Geezer Butler @geezerbutler

Sad to hear of Neil Peart passing. RIP.

Rick Mercer

@rickmercer

A drum lesson from Neil Peart was one of my best days on the job ever.

Rheostatics

Very Very sad news today in the passing of Neil Peart - I'm a huge RUSH fan so this is both very upsetting and surprising....I know most Rheos fans are aware that Neil played drums on Guns from the Whale Music album. Here is a really nice article Dave Bidini wrote for the National Post about Neil back in 2013 - now I'll go cry - https://nationalpost.com/…/rush-reflects-on-long-career-ahe…

Damnit. RIP Neil. Getting to see you and your bandmates in concert 2 times is something I will cherish forever. I only wish I had sought out to see you guys perform sooner.

Default Legendary drummer Neil Peart dead at 67

Best live performances of almost any band. The drum solo always the highlight of any show.

Just rewatching my DVD of the Snake & Arrows tour, the drum solo was next level.

Hopefully Neil is resting in the arms of his wife and daughter tonight

Absolutely soul crushing news. The afterlife's rhythm section just got a massive upgrade. Favorite Peart moments.

Just an amazing song and even better playing.

Buddy Rich, eat your heart out! Note the change in grip half way through. Still ove watching the reaction of the band as Peart does his thing.

Neil Peart was on my bucket list of people to meet, completing the whole band. Sadly this is one I won't be able to achieve.
