So yeah, if you want to go to any of this tournament this week, buy tickets right now. Tonight is sold out, Sunday is sold out, and I think tomorrow might be too. Gonna need a bigger facility soon!

Leylah wins her opening round match 6-4 6-1 over Stojanovic of Serbia and is into the second round. Next up, Nao Hibino.

More good news as Felix just bounced Alex Bolt out of the Acapulco tourney with a 6-3 7-6 straight sets win.

I was thinking about getting tickets for Saturday but they're already sold out. From the pictures they don't have many seats. Too bad they didn't use a facility like Winsport where they has access to over 3000 seats. Maybe the roof is not high enough, but they did have these events in the Corral in the past so I think it would be doable.

Kyrgios (defending champ in Acapulco) has dropped the opening set to the young French kid Humber and is having an issue with his left hand (only hitting slice backhands).

Sharapova announces through Vanity Fair that she's calling it a career.

Interesting read. Complicated career.

She was one of the biggest stars in Tennis men or women. During her career peak really only the big 3 and Serena were bigger stars than her. I will miss her matches because she was another star to follow during Grand Slams. I didn't always necessarily cheer for her (I didn't always necessarily cheer against her) but she was someone that I would keep tab on their results for sure.

Maybe this is mean of me, but I for one won't miss her (I certainly won't miss the shrieking, that's for damn sure) and it's pretty clear her performance was aided by PED's. Just another Russian athlete who's accomplishments have been tainted through cheating, good riddance as far as I'm concerned.

Jan-Lennard did have the right Struff today as he wipes the court with the Georgian Basher today 6-1 6-0 in Dubai. Djoker is on court right now and looking large and in charge over Kohlscreiber.

IIRC, total attendance for the entire week last year was 6000 - and was hailed as a massive success. I don't think they expected demand to be this high, especially for the weekday draws. They could probably expand the bleachers a bit though.
The problem with using Winsport is that this is a two-court tournament. So cutting the availability of ice in half for two weeks in February is likely a non-starter for the city.

I'm liking this new doubles team of Gaby Dabrowski and Jelena Ostapenko, they move into the semi-finals in Qatar upsetting the #3 seeds Sabalenka and Mertens 4-6 6-1 10-4

But the thing is the drug she got banned for taking, wasn't even on the banned substance list until 2016. She won all 5 of her majors while the drug was perfectly legal.

Okay, so she continued to take a banned substance even after it was put on the banned list and got caught and subsequently suspended. Obviously, she continued to take it because she thought it was providing an advantage. I'm not saying that she should be stripped of all her major titles because technically she wasn't cheating at the time, but it certainly does tarnish her accomplishments in my opinion.

All grunters and shriekers should be silenced! If fans have to be quiet before service, players should shut their traps during points.

Tuned in to match point against FAA, which he saved and then lost two points later on unforced errors.
Straight set loss to Kyle Edmund. Sigh.
When is Bianca back?

Felix was running on fumes, played on Sunday in Marseille, then hops a 6,000 plus mile flight to Acapulco to play Tuesday and today. Not surprised at all that he lost today to a quality player in Kyle Edmund.
Bianca is still planning to make her 2020 debut at Indian Wells.

She's a polarizing figure. Accomplished, but those accomplishments are tainted by doping. She had a supposed rivalry with Serena. Not sure if that was more forced for the sake of having a storyline.
It's minor in the scale of big matches, but Genie beating Sharapova after her post-doping return is a favourite memory of mine.

Leylah is into the quarter-finals following a 6-3 6-0 victory over Nao Hibino.
