Sounds like fun, especially in May.

Your life seems like a real-life "Jack Frost" with Michael Keaton.

I was going to post "any snowball fight is a good snowball fight" until I followed that link.

Any update on what the drought situation looks like for AB, particularly southern AB? We had a very snowy March, April and wet May. June is typically the wettest month. I would hope we are close to recovering some solid moisture levels and stabilizing things for the farmers. The fire situation is what it is and hopefully that risk is lowered a bit but we can't get too greedy.

Probably still rated some variation of "dry" because nothing short of a tsunami rolling through will provide enough moisture.

Up north I believe the dire-ness of it. Precipitation has avoided those regions like the plague. Here not so much. At least not since the back half of winter.

The voles that had taken over my yard have ####ed off. They like dry soil and don't like moist or wet soil. So that alone tells me we've seen an improvement from last year.

Soil conditions are good everywhere but the Grande Prairie area.
Water levels are getting better in the South, Northern Alberta lakes and rivers still low.

These graphs should be live if you re-visit this post later.

Ya, even mountain snow levels are holding fairly steady. Though remember, "previous year" was a very warm May but some sites are in the normal range.

Is there anything to do to get rid of the little ####ers? They popped up in my yard and every other yard on my block.

I tried the sulfur smoke bombs and the rabbit repellant (internet said it can work) but they’re back.

Damn, pretty sure that's what we have too. They've tunnelled all over our yard and seem to have stunted a lot of the plant growth this year.

A couple things we've tried/our neighbors have tried:
1) Setting out vole/rat poison traps (little black boxes they can get into/other animals cannot). Co-ordinate with your neighbors on this so the voles don't just migrate next door, making it easy for them to return.
2) We've installed some bricks around the lawn as an edging - they don't really like that for some reason
3) Getting a dog, cat, or spend lots of time in the yard (they don't like the sound/vibrations)
4) There's battery operated vibrating stakes you can put in your lawn - same effect as #3
5) Those cheesy owl garden gnome figurines can scare them off as well

I am very pleased with the moisture we are getting. Something feels right about a rainy May.
