All of their beers are pretty spot on. They tend to stick to the traditional styles, which is good, as they nail them. Curious to see once they start playing around, what they are able to come up with...

As an aside, I cannot recommend Oak and Vine enough. Great stores (one on 16th ave by SAIT, another in Inglewood), great selection and service. My fave Calgary store so far. They just need to get growlers in the NW store somehow...
Bozo: my brother loves hot/spicy beers, any chance the red jalapeņos and Cheyennes sees anything besides a cask? Or is available up here in Calgary?

On the spicy note, anyone know of any good spicy beer?
My brother loved this - Jalapeno ale - one from Garrison Brewery in Halifax - http://adminpanel.garrisonbrewing.co.../3/beer/18.pdf - and hasn't found anything comparable/as good here in calgary. Thoughts and suggestions?

Nah man that was just a one-off. There's only a very small market for those who like the spicy beers.
Rogue makes a Sriracha stout that is kind of interesting. He might be into that.

Westbrook Mexican Cake and its variants are great. Tough to acquire though.

Is there a local retailer in Calgary that has these types of all inclusive recipe kits? I've visited the Vineyard before off MacLeod for other supplies, but I'm not sure if they have these types of recipe kits.
Is there an online retailer that compares in Canada?

Go to the Home Vintner on 14th st NW and JLB. The Baron's kits are easy to make and really good. They also have add on packs to modify them so you don't get bored.

Can someone recommend a nice English style malty ale by a local microbrewery, something along the lines of Fuller's London Pride or ESB? I like to support local breweries, but it seems everyone is still on the IPA/ hop-head bandwagon, so I keep going back to the imports.

Troubled Monk Brewery in Red Deer makes a fantastic American Brown Ale called Open Road.
It's very malty and smooth, mildly hopped.
This might be up your alley.

I just finished off some of that open road ale last weekend. Agree that it's fantastic. Slightly hoppy, but not at all bitter. Looking forward to trying some of troubled monk's other offerings.

I also just tried some Open Road for the first time. Good stuff. Glad to see a few more local brews cropping up. I also recently tried a couple of beers from Half Hitch out in Cochrane, and Goat Locker in Calgary.

Friday beers after 2 weeks of no beer is even better.
Been trying a lot of Ayinger brewery beers recently- seems to have popped up everywhere recently. Damn those Germans prove there are a lot of variety in lagers. Im a little hopped out, so nice change.
