yup. Scoring 22 goals as a 19 year old rookie (while Johnny was still in college) was pure luck.

nice article in the Herald about Jankowski. The kid certainly has a great attitude:

Quote:
“If he loses the puck battle, for instance, in practice, I usually have a comment for him — a quieter comment, sometimes — about how he’s going to need to be harder or stronger on his stick,” Huska said. “And I don’t want to say his eyes go back, but the next time he does something, he makes sure he’s hard on pucks. It’s like he wants to prove people wrong, at times. That’s where I’m seeing more of that competitive side come out.

“If you show him why and show him what we’re hoping to get him to accomplish by doing these things that we’re asking him to work on, and if he doesn’t do it and you call him on it, he gets mad. I think he gets mad at himself. But he also has a bit of that attitude like, ‘Fine, I’ll show you.’ And the next time, I think he’s a better player because of it.”

...

“For me, I don’t really worry about points that much,” Jankowski said. “I go into every game just thinking I’m trying to do whatever I can to help the team win, whether it be a goal or an assist or a blocked shot. The points are coming right now, so obviously that’s great. But as long as I’m playing a good 200-foot game and helping my team win, I think that’s the important thing.”

Did we miss a game or have they really had like 5 days off? Feels like ages since they played.

yeah they had 5 days off. Pretty standard AHL scheduling, especially in that division. They'll often play Friday/Saturday and then be off for 4 or 5 days.

You're gonna have to sit out the next round, feller.

Gillies won't play tonight, despite returning to practice and morning skate from a finger injury.

Heat don't have much flow or energy so far tonight. Feels like they are waiting for something to happen.

Heat have some life on this PP. Campbell with a few big saves on Jankowski and Frattin.

Game still tied 1-1

Rittich just made a better save than any I've seen Gillies make this season

Off to overtime.

Forget the talk about Janko being a bust that we heard over the years, now the question should be is how good is this kid gong to be? Big, good in all zones, and still just getting started. Maybe it's the rose colored glasses, but I think he still has huge potential.

Heat win in OT. Bailey I believe.

edit: I think it was Bailey from Klimchuk and Wotherspoon.

Klimchuk with the assist on the GWG (Matt Bailey). Huska continues to use random scrubs in 3-on-3 instead of our most skilled players. I hope Huska is never our NHL coach, I could just see a Gaudreau-Chiasson-Engelland unit. Wait, Gulutzan does that **** too on 4v4.

Janko started, and Klimchuk has played well. And the team is winning.

If they're winning does it matter who he's using? If GG used Chiasson and Vey in OT and the Flames were winning I wouldn't care.

Jankowski's point streak ends at 7.

Ontario did a good job of limiting his time and space.

Huska made a good point that Jankowski is now a known quantity in the AHL. He will be facing the hardest match ups now and teams will be focusing in on him.

We will see how he responds.

I think it's a great thing. Not only does it show he is indeed a threat, but fighting through harder match ups will only make him better. Even if his numbers slow down a bit it will help him in the long run. I say bring it on.

The Heat are visiting the Oilers farm team in Bakersfield today and are playing exactly the same lineup as yesterday. First period has just ended, it's still scoreless. Rittich has been very busy so far, 13 saves already. Shots are 13-6 Bakersfield.

Great sequence of saves on the PK in the first to protect the goose egg and keep the game tied.
