The podcast discussion for episode eight had about the first 15-20 minutes devoted to the opening. There is actually one cut somewhere in the first 4:20 or so of the scene (before the cut to the beetle on the highway), according to Gilligan/Gould.

if there's a cut in there, then kudos for hiding it ... I certainly didn't see it. Either way, very well done.

The director of the episode read the script and then pitched the idea to make the teaser a "one'er" as they call it. And Gould/Gilligan were nervous about going for it, and had logistical and story concerns about going for the single shot. But were beyond thrilled with how it turned out. And they wanted to talk about it for two hours on a podcast that had a little over an hour recorded for discussing the entire episode.

When these guys who know all about making great TV and all the behind the scenes aspects of what goes into it are that impressed, you know it's a supremely well done job.

I assume the cut is when a bunch of people walk in front of the camera just before they open the truck. The one border guard passes completely through the shot at about 2:29 in the video. That's usually how cuts are hidden in those types of "one shot" scenes.

Definitely, the camera also appears to start moving around again following the officer walking past. So the camera was likely brought to a final resting spot before the cut, then picked up again to start the next sequence so the transition is even more seamless.

Th podcast is excellent and really delves into the preparation and overall consideration that is put into each aspect of the show. Jonathan Banks is pretty funny too.

Didn't know the Mythbuster guys were involved in some of the Breaking Bad special effects work. That was cool to learn.

Don't know if it means much but some of the shots of Howard are pretty creepy. The way they light his face, it looks like a mask - dark, malevolent. I don't trust that seemingly affable demeanour. There might even be a link to Chuck's illness because Howard at Chuck's house frequently and the illness is still much unexplained. Something is not right there.

Best episode of the series so far, and it measures up well with the best of BB.

I thought Mike was sabotaging the ice cream truck so that the Salamancas would hire him for protection services. Reckless of him to flash his money around and buy a round of drinks. Looks like a little romance is on the horizon with the waitress.

I like how they trust Kim to convey so much without even speaking. When she punched Jimmy in the car it said so much about the choices she is making.

Would a tribunal really adjourn a hearing over a typo on an address? They explained research had to be done at the other address.

I don't think Chuck is dead, but maybe rendered incompetent.

Jimmy watched from the shadows without doing anything. Like Walt and Jane.

I've said before I think things will end very badly for Kim - but, the writers have probably not decided her fate yet. Jesse was supposed to die in the first season.

Well, I mean, I'm not a municipal or administrative law expert but if they published one of those "Please lodge your complaints if development at X address" things and did other impact studies on a different address they probably would adjourn, but a provisional ruling wouldn't be unreasonable.

Poor Kim. You just know Jimmy is going to take her down a road that's not going to be good for her or her career.

Drilling holes in pipe today for drip irrigation, and I keep thinking I sure could use a granddaughter with drill skills...

Totally stoked for tonight and totally annoyed it's the last one of the season.

Ugh, my wife and I watch the show together, and she is gone all week. I know I should wait for her to watch, but maybe if I drink lots of scotch tonight, I might just forget the main plot points and can pretend I didn't see it? Dilemmas...

Am I the only person who enjoys this more than Breaking Bad? I know it's a bit early to make that kind of statement. But I've enjoyed every minute of BCS, yet Breaking Bad had its highs and lows.

Do it Fuzz. Watch the show, then drink the scotch. You may not even technically be lying if you tell her you don't remember.

I was planning on drinking the scotch during the show, but OK, after too!

I still prefer Breaking Bad. It had a lot more rollercoaster moments where you just had to bingewatch immediately. BCS is more of a slow burn. They're both excellent shows, but actually very different in how they tell their stories.

I appreciate being along for the entire ride with Better Call Saul so far, while I was late to the party when I caught up with Breaking Bad.
