I suggest going to a bar that has a decent selection and trying a few different Whiskys. I like going to Comery Block during happy hour because they're half price. It gives me a chance to try some of the more expensive stuff without spending a huge amount on a full bottle.

Yeah, the nice thing about Glenfarclas is that you can get older expressions for a reasonable price. I was on a domestic United flight, and they had Glenfarclas 21 as one of their standard options. I was blown away it was there and the same price as a mini bottle of Jim Beam

Tonight I was lucky to try a 15 year Springbank Rum Wood (@ 51%) and it's easily one of the top three scotches I've ever had. It's just that good.

It’s pretty good.
No, it's Mackmyra. Never heard of it before, but it was a solid whiskey.

Advent calendar update: I sampled possibly the tastiest scotch I've ever had last night. It's from Dalmore called King Alexander III.

It's....pricey, but this is a rare one that I would say is worth the extra cost. Something to savor for sure. Velvety mouth feel, a little sweet, lots of wood flavors, low on the peat. Honestly, I'm not doing a good job describing it, but it's just fantastic.

The King Alex is a default Christmas scotch for me. It's basically christmas cake in liquid form.

World’s largest Scotch collection could fetch up to $10.5 million at auction.

Anyone looking to sell a bottle of Canadian Club 40yr old from their collection? I'll pay a premium.

Holy ####, is this ever good. I mean...it's just...you gotta try it, especially if you're a Lagavulin or Islay fan. I'm in love.

I’ve been wanting to try that but it’s not available in Alberta.

I really enjoyed the 18, but I wasn't a fan of the 12. What's the allure of an 11 year old Lagavulin?

It has a special selection of American Oak barrels that Nick picked out himself?

Truly, I have no idea beyond that. I imagine they just determined it was ready after 11 years. All I know is that it's really delicious and is unique compared to their other vintages.

Heritage Costco had the Kirkland 20 yr old single malt in stock again a while ago - just flying off the shelves, man that is such a good value

Great scotch. Wish they had more.

I’ve never been a fan of any of the stuff in French or American oak barrels. There’s some weird flavour I don’t like. A whiskey reviewer I’ve watched described the flavour as reminiscent of glue and I kinda agree. Bourbon cask stuff is the types of thing for me.

The Costco 20 was good, but I didn’t feel like I was truly appreciating it like everyone else seemed to, so I traded 3/4 off bottle to my friend for a pretty decent favor. Honestly speaking, I’d rather sip Kirkland 12. I don’t feel as bad for not enjoying it as much as others I’ve tried it with.

On a different note, I find the Kirkland 12 reminds me of Glenfarclass but not as spicy sherry. Damn good value and even though it’s so damn cheap by volume, i think it ranks above average as a general sipper option.

Which Kirkland 12 are you referring to? The big bottle for $75?

Yes. The giant long bottle. Not the stubby one which I believe is a blend.

I've purchased that giant thing 3 times in 2019 after first trying it in the summer. We thought it would be mediocre and were very, very wrong. My buddies and I now consider it an amazing baseline scotch to have on hand.

Better than Lagavulin 16? Can't be. No Lagavulin can top Lagavulin 16.

General scotch question: Do you keep your scotch in the boxes? I actually like the way they look in the boxes when displaying my collection. I guess another benefit would be keeping light off the liquor although I keep mine in the basement so that isn't a problem.

I ended up getting the Balvenie 14 year old carribean cask. I'm really enjoying it.
