Guess it's time to start looking into speed enforcement countermeasures.

On this note I feel I should step in and mention that firing paintballs at the speed-camera guy, while an effective countermeasure, is apparently an 'intermediate felony' whatever the hell that means...

I suppose we could somehow re-purpose a confetti gun to create some form of chaff system....granted that would create some new problems of its own but here we are...

So what is the actual plan here? Are they going to vote on this?

Cities could just implement this but because of the potential controversy I’d be shocked if it doesn’t go to council. They could have a non-statutory public hearing. Such a hearing doesn’t bind them but it’s an opportunity to hear the public.

I get the feeling it's a done deal and only a matter of if Druh will stick to her guns with 30 km/hr or compromise 40 km/hr to rope in those councillors that are on the fence. I just hate that the people we vote in to supposedly have our best intentions ram these things through even when most Calgarians don't want it. This isn't the way it's supposed to work.

I was driving with my wife this morning through a 30-km-per-hour school zone and I said this is what it could be like in Calgary soon in certain residential area. It was gruelling and I can’t imagine what it’d be like. She said it’s already in Airdrie, where her sister lives.

I think Airdrie is 40, and it is gruelling

Airdrie is 30. And yes, they still have playground/school zones as well (same speed limit)

Funny, it's still 10 minutes to downtown Calgary.

I took the cancellation of the public engagement as a sign they are letting this idea die.

It's an idea driven by concerned parents and community associations. It might not pass a vote, but it's definitely not dead. As much as some people don't like it, for some councilors trying to get it passed is how they'll get re-elected

Judging by the online polls and comments there is very little grassroots support for this. One Councillor was quoted as saying it was 90% negative feedback to his riding office.

You mean Airdrie - Just 10 minutes to downtown Calgary!™
Airdrie is 10 minutes to downtown Calgary if you a) start your commute literally on Hwy 2, and b) drive during off-peak hours. I dated someone for two years who lived in Airdrie and driving to my office in downtown from her place sucked ass.

I was stuck behind a car going 40 in my neighborhood for a long stretch last week and it was driving me crazy as it's so slow. Driving 30 in a playground zone is only palpable because you know it's only for a few blocks and even at that I'm typically going 35 or so because it feels like you are at a cycling speed.
