He had a 7 year contract that paid him 27million. When he was out East he was billed as a number 2 type defenceman wo was a top pairing player. Today I see a borderline #4 who brings marginal offence and gets beat soundly by other teams top offensive players. I don't think he will make 27 million more in career earnings.

I could see him getting a 25-30M deal in the summer but that will be a regrettable contract to whoever signs it.

Not only that but people underestimate how much defenders sign for.
Not only that but people underestimate how much GM's appreciate defensive defensemen more than a lot of fans.

Hamonic will get paid north of 6 million if he goes to the open market IMO.

Closest comparables to Hamonic this summer.

Jake Gardiner 16.2M
Anton Stralman 16.5M
Alex Edler 12M

Pretty safe to say Hamonic gets 12-17M ish depending on term

I think Winnipeg signs Hamonic to a 5x5. Won't be absolutely terrible, but it'll probably be an anchor of a contract after 2/3 seasons.

But they know he wants to be there, could probably get him for 3x5M.

I suspect that Hamonic has the same shelf life as Alzner did the year he signed his big UFA contract. Hamonic is the 5th best dman on the Flames (if Valimaki was playing he would be the 6th best) and there just is not much there anymore. We got a good season out of him and all it cost us was a 1st and two 2nds.

Dont think Hammer get 6m a year. But anything over 5 is too steep for CGY IMO.

And thus lies the crux of being a bubble team this year. We have some great value assets but if you're in the hunt for a spot, you can't move them and you lose the opportunity to get assets to continue the build up.

Ah well. Too bad.

I think BT will make a trade of one of our UFA dman even if the team is on the bubble.

I don't see him letting them both walk if the team is 50/50 or even 60/40 to make the playoffs

Oh Stop it.

I doubt any team gives him more than 5.25 mill per year.
The absolute most I think the Flames should go would be 3 years at 4.5 mill per. He'd still only be 32 at the end of the contract.

Still a huge mistake, imo. I've changed my tune on Brodie and Hamonic. I used to say Brodie goes, but now you can clearly see Hamonic losing a step as the years go by and with is style of play, he'll fall off a cliff suddenly.

There's a significant chance that you're 4.5mil a year contract turns into a more expensive Michael Stone (his bought out $3.5mil one) contract in and out of the line-up.

Hopefully they deal Hamonic at the deadline and recoup some assets so Aarongayvey can stop crying about it anytime someone even mentions Hamonic.

If BT extends Hamonic, I will completely lose faith in him. He clearly has no ability to learn from his mistakes if he signs a guy like that to a big deal. It will be the defenseman equivalent of brouwer or neal. Hamonic is deteriorating before our eyes, it would be monumentally stupid to sign him past 2 years and over 3.5m

HNIC:

Devils may need 4 pieces in return for Hall
talks have been one sided mostly with the Devils asking for teams to step up with offers
Avs seem to be the favourites right now

Galchenyuk on the block as Rutherford has said he might not be in the lineup once they are all healthy
Buffalo among the teams looking at him

no assurances have been made to Geoff Ward with regards to the coaching job in Calgary

They should give him the same assurances Berube had last season.

icon57 Taylor Hall for 4 Assets!

Four pieces for Hall, neither package seems palatable.

Michael Frolík, Dillon Dubé, 2020 1st round pick, 2020 2nd round pick
TJ Brodie, Andrew Mangiapane, 2020 1st round pick, 2020 2nd round pick
Travis Hamonic, Mark Jankowski, 2020 1st round pick, 2020 2nd round pick

This last package likely outbids all others,

Juuso Välimäki, Sam Bennett, 2020 1st round pick, 2021 1st round pick
