Default 2015 College free agents

started looking at free agents, list is incomplete but based off names that have been coming up and some stat watching

D Mike Reilly 6'1'' 183lbs Shoots L Age: 21 Junior
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=106295
2011 round 4 #98 overall CBJ
Lots of speculation he will use the Justin Schultz loophole to become an UFA.
A skilled offensive and elite skating blueliner and potential PP QB. Was highly
rated in his draft year, but fell because he was small (5'10'' 150lbs in his
draft year)

RW Mike Vecchione 5'10'' 194lbs Shoots R Age: 21 Sophomore
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=98845
considered one of the best high school players in Massachussetts
Won the NCAA championship with Union
most recently attended the Panthers development camp where he was described as a "hustle guy, with good hands, who is hard to push off the puck"
one of the top scorers in the NCAA this season

C/RW Justin Kloos 5'9'' 179lbs Shoots R Age: 21 Sophomore
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=113322
ranked 203rd skater in the 2013 NHL draft by central scouting
described as "a speed demon with serious offensive ability"
won the Mr. Hockey award in 2012 for being the most outstanding senior high school hockey player

D Kenney Morrison 6'2'' 205lbs Shoots R Age: 22 Junior
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=50034
described as an excellent 2-way defenceman with size and good hands
considered a "tremendous skater"
has a pro-style shot - a "cannon from the point"
attended the Oilers development camp in 2013 and Oilers reportedly pursued him hard last spring
went to the Kings camp in 2014
put up more points than fellow teammate Dekeyser in 2012/2013
from Lloydminster, so Oilers and Flames might have an advantage if he wants to stay near home

D Gavin Bayreuther 6'1'' 194lbs Shoots L Age: 20 Sophomore
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=178941
ranked the 115 North American skater for the 2014 draft by central scouting

after being passed over in the draft twice previously
described as "excellent passer and can quarterback the power play"
also has a great shot from the point and is a "smooth skater"

LW/D Ahti Oksanen 6'3'' 207lbs Shoots L Age:21 Junior
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=56595
was a defencman his first two years at BU, but this season has been converted to a full time LW for Jack Eichel
ranked the 66th European skater in the 2012 draft by central scouting
was recruited to BU by former Flames scout Pertti Hasanen
his offensive game is much better than his defensive game per a few reports and probably the reason he was converted to a forward this season
very willing to block shots

G C.J. Motte 6'0'' 176lbs Catches L Age: 22 Senior
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=39407
attended 2014 Habs development camp

G Kasimir Kaskisuo 6'2'' 201lbs catches L Age: 21 Freshman
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=45422
ranked 9th NA goaltender for the 2014 draft by cSS

C Tyler Sikura 6'2'' 190lbs Shoots L Age: 22 Senior
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=76371
attended the Jets development camp in 2013
considered a size and skill package with potential to become a power forward
considered one of the best puck handlers and passers in the OJHL
brother Dylan is a Chicago draft pick
had a good sophomore season, bad junior season, senior season seems to be on track with his sophomore season

C/RW Austin Czarnik 5'9'' 161lbs Shoots R Age 21 Senior
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=20707
considered one of the more skilled players in the NCAA
also good at getting through the traffic and on the defensive side of the puck

Sikura, Okksanen, Morrison, Vecchione, & Reilly sound very intriguing... hope the Flames can grab one or more of them.

That Morrison kid is intriguing. Nice size and a RH shot.

This is one place in the Flames system I have full faith in. They seem to keep finding gold with US College hockey players. Between Conroy and now Burke, we look to have people in management with more connections to US College hockey and not relying only on the CHL for players.

We need college aged defence in our system more than anything else. It would be a real coup to pick up Reilly or Morrison.

I remember Morrison's name being kicked around here awhile back.

Did he attend any other NHL franchise's development camps, sureLoss? Who has an inside line on him?

like I said in the OP the Oilers pushed very hard to sign him last year. He even went to a game at Rexall last spring to meet with the Oilers management.

I hope we've developed a good reputation with college athletes, I can't see how we wouldn't of.

Calgary wasn't attractive for free agents last summer, could be a different story come this spring.

Maybe we can get him to a game, you know, to appreciate an NHL quality team. He may be enticed by the quality of forwards and team need for a right shooting defenceman.

This guy was pointed out to me by Mark Divver:

RW Kyle Baun 6'2'' 209lbs shoots R Age: 22 Junior
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=76818
grandson of Leafs legend Bobby Baun
went to Bruins and Red Wings Development camps
Wings were so impressed with him at their camp they offered him a NHL contract but he decided to go back to school
noted for his "shot, skating, and gritty" play

Yeah, Baun is definitely worth keeping an eye on. He's been playing with the Spink twins at Colgate, if my memory serves me. A very dangerous line combination.

per Friedman on HNIC, Boston University goaltender Matthew O'Connor is getting a ton of interest from Canadian teams. Specifically mentioned Toronto, Edmonton, Vancouver and Ottawa. Also said Edmonton had lots of discussions with him recently.

Friedman also mentioned Baun (previously mentioned in this thread) as a guy who will get a lot of attention too.

With the Flames giving multiple players NHL playing time this season, especially Josh Jooris, it would give players a legitimate desire to come here. Especially looking at the Flames defensive prospects and having only Wotherspoon to compete against right now and a very weak 3rd pairing, it would be a great opportunity to step right into a spot. (the rest of the guys are decent but could use more time)

Guys like Morrison and Reilly would fit in like a glove, and the fact that the Flames activate the defense as much as they do would fit their games to a tee.

After reading a ton and seeing how Johnny and Jooris developed, i'm pretty impressed with the college route for development.

one update on Flames free agent invite Casey Bailey.

Bailey has been nominated for the Hobey Baker. He is in the top 20 in the NCAA for points. #18 in the NCAA for PPG. He is tied for 3rd in goals scored with 14.

He is a big bodied 6'3'' 194lbs C/RW that played RW at Flames development camp last summer.

I thought Casey Bailey was great in the flames prospect camp this summer. Really liked his game. I remember thinking at the time that he is exactly what we need in our system. Big right handed power forward got some decent skill too. Threw a lot of decent hits.
Granted it's July hockey and you cant read too much into what you see at a prospect camp. I thought he stood out for whatever its worth
