Every single one of these horrific stories tied to religion is proof these lunatics do not really believe what they proclaim, basically they are so full of #### and actually more disgusting than the average person.
I've also come to realize that those who question religion and respect truth and rational thought actually spend time thinking about these things while theists simply revert to faith and superstition or what they were told as a child. Incredibly lazy.

That's basically everyone... religious or not. People have their views about what's right and wrong and what people should be like and will not examine those or tolerate any dissent from them.

Not true. I was born into a Catholic family and indoctrinated.
At home.
At school.
In my community.
And of course, in Church.
I never questioned it.
Then I just listened in Church. Like really listened.
I was disgusted by what I heard, and was similarly disgusted by the hypocrisy all around me.
It is tough to acknowledge as an adult, that everything you were told and subsequently believed from those who brought you up is all bull####.
But it is possible.
Seriously, if you’re still a Catholic, or a member of any other cult, do the same.
Break the cycle and free yourself from this evil.

Yeah, that statement is not true at all. There are countless people who were raised with religion and made conscious efforts to educate themselves and change what they were told to believe.

I'm not sure this is a fair characterization of the religious.
I think the real challenge is when someone starts to believe that morality is defined by belief, than actions take a back seat to faith in their moral construction. I think it's a terrible systems of principles to follow, but also that it's perfectly rational and fits with their system of belief.
The basic moral structure of western religions is "god loves good people, god loves those who have faith in god, I have faith in god, so I am good in spite of my bad actions." It's not a good moral constructions, but it certainly allows for people to justify their own bad actions with moral consistency.

the real danger comes when people decide they have to do 'God's work' which seems to never consist of living in poverty helping their fellow man but always consists of punishing the heretics, sinners and apostates and forcing people to act like they believe, which of course completely misunderstands the role of temptation in faith

Saturnalia is about doing service for those who normally serve you. So I am not normally big on the structure of tipping, but a little extra in the tip jar, taking your employees for a nice lunch.... would be in line with the original spirit of the season (don't let the Christians co-opt this from the pagan just yet).

Of course it's a scam but at least it's morphed into time away from work to have fun with friends and family.

We’re spending Christmas in Australia (>three months away). Santa will arrive on a surf board. I’m happy to miss the snow and cold. I’d do this every year but my wife would never agree. We both miss our kids but I handle it better (differently).

Sweet. Sounds like a lot of fun. The wife and I are looking at taking a winter break next year, but we can’t decide where to go. My sisters family lived in Australia for several years, and have friends there, so she recommended going there, but I’m not super keen on reconnecting with her friends by proxy lol.

11 days off this year without using any holidays!
In our household it's all about boxing day. Kids do you want an Xmas present by the 25th or do you want a present twice as good on the 26th! lol
It's really too bad China hasn't infiltrated Canada enough. I wouldn't mind a week off for Chinese New Years.

In retrospect, the best thing that the UN forces could have done is relocate all of the women of Afghanistan to anywhere in the world they wanted to go, and then just left.

The Taliban have announced the closure of universities to women in Afghanistan, according to a letter by the higher education minister.

14 year old girl, raped and killed in Iran for taking off her headscarf in school, these stories so sad and horrific. The "religion of peace" strikes again, Islam is just as disgusting as Christianity, simply more violent in modern times.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world...ehp&li=BBnb7Kz
The New York Times reported that the woman, identified as Masoomeh, was from a poor neighbourhood in Tehran and took her headscarf off at school in protest.
She was reportedly identified by school cameras and arrested. She was later treated at a hospital for “severe vaginal tears,” The Times reported, citing the Center for Human Rights in Iran, a New York-based watchdog organization.
The report also said the woman died and her mother has disappeared.
