Default Exterminator/Pest Control for squirrels

It would appear that squirrels have found their way into my attack. And that they have multiple routes, I blocked what appeared to be a route in, but I heard them once again this morning in the walls/attic. Does any one have any suggestions for pest control companies?

Thanks

My dad bought a squirrel trap and just uses peanut butter as bait. Works every time. If you feel like it you could do it yourself, and take them to another neighborhood that isn't mine.

I remember having squirrels in my attic in Calgary, and it's crazy how loud they are. They sound like 80 pound dogs wrestling and jumping off the top rope!

They actually did move out when I got a dog. That's probably a bit extreme of a recommendation though. Maybe borrow a cat to put up there for a while?

Where's Eddie? He usually eats these GD-things.

Please do not put a cat in an attic with squirrels! Poor kitty!

I would have thought it would just send them running? You think they'd stay and fight?

Well first off, attics are cold, cats tend not to like that much. They are also full of dust an insulation, which you shouldn't breath without a mask, so subjecting a cat to that is cruel. Squirrels also have hella sharp claws, so if the cat and squirrel seem cornered, expect bloodshed. Basically you are gambling with big vet bills when inanimate metal trap can do the job better.

Haha, I'm not sure how I got attack from attic, that's gold.

I have both a cat and a dog. Dog isn't much of a barker though. The cat was mostly staying indoors due to a bobcat in the neighbourhood, but I think we're going to let her out. Haven't see the bobcat in awhile and I'm hoping, probably incorrectly, that she'll scare them away.

I won't put her in the attic, or the attack either.

I may look into the squirrel trap bit. I just hate going up into the attic, and would rather someone else dealt with it.

Where does one get a squirrel trap?

Looks like Canadian tire has them.

Depends on your attic, but mine I can just pop the hatch and I'd just put the trap right there without going in it, they'll find it.

Cabela's is where I got mine. I drop the squirrels off at the zoo.

Where are you located so I make sure not to drop the little critters off in your neighbourhood.

Calgary. I suggest using Airdrie as a dumping ground, though Okotoks or Chestermere works to.

Some squirrel resources for you:

https://squirreltunnel.com/ if you locate a point of ingress that you can't block off like an air vent, but don't want squirrels using it

https://ruggedranch.net/catch-mor-traps/ if a Havahart won't cut it for you.

https://mousetrapmonday.com/videos/t...setrap-monday/

As for baits, I use peanuts in the shell but occasionally have to switch it up to sunflower seeds or peanut butter on an old plastic container lid.

Apparently re-locating squirrels, especially in the winter, is pretty much a death sentence, as you aren't relocated their food stores. The Humane Society suggests getting them to leave and then blocking the entrance behind them:

I had them inside my roof last year, it turns out one of the toilet vent stacks on my roof had come loose, They seemed to only be in there during the daytime, so I waited until I couldn't hear them, and then sealed it back up- no issues since. They had accumulated a LOT of pinecones in my attic, discovered when I moved the access to the attic a few months later- destructive little buggers

Get an exterminator to get rid of them now and then get a trap and start relocating some in the summer.

I have this trap...works like magic...is a bit bigger than the one mentioned above. Squirrels are crafty and don't like to go in small spaces.

https://www.amazon.ca/Havahart-1083-...xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

You can use it for skunks too. Don't ask me how I know that((

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I used Cal-Rid to get rid of a skunk that I unintentionally trapped. It cost $350 for a skunk, not sure what squirrels in your attic would cost. However, if you don't get rid of their entrance, squirrels will always get back in.

Please don't allow your cat outside, unless you mean keeping it within your yard. It's against our bylaws.

Thanks for all the info/insight everyone.

Ended up seeing the bugger in my garage yesterday, took off along the soffits (I think they're called soffits) and back into the interior attic/walls. Didn't hear anything since then, so I'm not sure they are laying low, left and can't get back in or what.
I ended up hiring a company to come take a look, they'll be here today, they'll block entrances and trap them for me. See what goes from there.

It should be against bylaws everywhere. It’s ridiculous.
