I've had to medically intervene many times in the last 9 years yet he still won't get the shot due to misinformation yet I see him almost die on a weekly basis just from diabetes.



It absolutely breaks my heart. He won't use pumps or any modern diabetes treatment because .. Facebook misinformation... like he legitimately thinks covid won't kill him . He barley survives his type one because he won't move on from the old finger prick and strip test. Figures that's still the best method and claims the vacci e won't help him. Absolutely breaks my heart. He is like a dad to me . And he is going to die most likely in front of me because of misinformation. This I have never been more sure of 9n my life.

I'm also a CDE, so this breaks my heart. If he's getting low that often, he's likely developed hypoglycemia unawareness which is crazy dangerous. You should tell him that frequent lows cause permanent brain damage and he should try to stay a little high to avoid lows for a few months. Does he have any Healthcare professional he trusts? I feel like if there was someone who could at least throw a few facts his way they may at least change his diabetes control for the better

See ON, AB , MB allowing 11 year olds who turn 12 by end of year to be vaccinated now with Quebec thinking the same now.

Pfizer should be submitting data for 5-11 by end of Sept, and will apply for emergency use then. So maybe by end of October?
Under 5 will likely be early 2022.

Thay does seem weird. Most jurisdictions still have mandatory quarantine for people who test positive.

A friend of mine works for one of the largest retailers in Canada and told me that 5/15 staff at her store are positive. No action was taken. None. Business as usual. They notified the other staff but took no steps at all, even for the positive cases.

Does that seem normal? It isn't like this is some mom and pop shop. This is a multi billion dollar company with thousands of locations in canada.

She called health link for advice on what action to take and when her district manager found out, he got mad at her and said she should not have called but instead should only be taking direction from her manager.


That all seems kind of odd doesn't it? Even if they aren't skirting the rules/law, it still seems dangerous. They also have a lot of elderly clientele.

I can tell you that SDM absolutely takes more steps than local PHU. I was told someone (1 week post 2nd shot) who was a contact of a presumed positive would need to be off 10 days and public health said just to monitor unless symptoms develop. Thankfully the presumed positive was actually negative so they only missed 2 days (paid of course).

I'm just too excited about this news and have to post it in both threads.

Starting mid-Sept, all fans to Stamps/Flames/etc games will have to be FULLY VACCINATED.

This is amazing news - hopefully the 20 something dumb****** and the other non-20-somethings who are just absolutely ignorant will change their mind if they want to go to a Flames game. (I'm sure the Oilers will follow suit, and I believe the WHL already announced this too?)

This is too awesome.

Bo-Levi, any comments as to why this shouldn't be? I'm sure you'll have some.

Well your friend is playing with fire. I am a T1D and extremely scared of Covid. I only commented to say I still use finger pricks and shots (instead of continuous glucose monitors and pumps) because it's less expensive. I got a CGM (Dexcom 6) bc my wife's employers insurance covered 100% of it. She was fired 3 weeks later and the cost was like $400 a month. So I went back to sticking my finger. Just because it's old doesn't mean it doesn't work.

Also hope your friend smartens up and gets the vaccine.

A new order from the provincial health officer will require individuals to provide proof of vaccination to access a broad range of social, recreational, and discretionary events and businesses throughout the province. As of Sept. 13, one dose of vaccine will be required for entry to these settings. By Oct. 24, entry to these settings will require people to be fully vaccinated at least seven days after receiving both doses. To enter certain spaces, including indoor ticketed sporting events, indoor and patio dining in restaurants, fitness centres, casinos and indoor organized events, like conferences and weddings, people aged 12 and older will be required to show their proof of vaccination.

It is interesting that they included weddings in the list of activities. Monitoring compliance for events like weddings is going to be impossible unless they force wedding parties to higher third party security to check vaccine status.

Don't love it. Private businesses can make their own decisions and let the market decide. I do not like the government forcing business to administer this.

I may not like it but IMO it is necessary. At Certain point these restrictions pop the little bubble of poor logic Anti-Vaxxers/Freedom fighters have reasoned themselves into. Provide them an out to save face with friends.

Totally agree. We should also get rid of health and safety inspections at restaurants, and let the market decide what is a safe amount of time for raw chicken to sit on a counter. The market knows best!

Does this apply to visitors too? We're planning to go to Victoria the end of September. We're fully vaccinated but how would we indicate that while in BC as residents of Alberta?

A very good question...I'm going to Van in October.
I didn't see anything about out of province folks in the backgrounders with the announcement today, but hopefully that will come in the time between today and implimentation.

I really wish Alberta would follow the vaccine passport like BC.

Some of you might remember me posting about my fitness business that was closed for 10 months during the pandemic.

We are open now, but our attendance is not even close to pre-pandemic levels. It would be hard for us as a business to introduce vaccine proof, the backlash would be enormous. However if the government introduced a requirement that attendees at my non-essential business were required to be double vaccinated, I believe that the number of vaccinated people who would now feel comfortable to return (who haven't yet) would far outnumber the non-vaccinated people that we'd be forced to not allow in.

It would be nice of the government to make that decision for us so we aren't facing the social media warriors and backlash.
