Well they didn't let me go up. He's so heavily sedated he wouldn't have known I was there. I think as of now he's not considered end of life yet so maybe that's why the rule hasn't changed, or maybe some policy specific to Lethbridge hospital because they're getting hammered right now. Not sure.

They have already gone so far and beyond for us because he is a doctor, so we're not quite ready to barge down doors.

Stable again today, he's on some form of continuous dialysis that's been working "better than expected" to address the kidney concerns so at least it looks like he'll remain stable, but still no signs of improvement in the lungs that are severely damaged. As I said earlier they're still trying a few things and waiting till middle of the week to see if there's any improvement. One of the doctors there who was good friends with my dad said has promised us that he'll let us know when it's time for him to go, because it's increasingly looking life support could be sustained forever.

No matter what happens, and even though I was never a patient of your father, I'm thankful we had him as a doctor in this province. We're all pulling for you Acey

Didn't have a single case at our Canadian locations during wave 1 & 2.

I have a friend who is 45, healthy.............Wednesday had a cold, Thursday had to go to hospital because he was having trouble breathing, Friday moved to ICU, Saturday put on a ventilator. I know 90% of you guys on here take it seriously especially with Acey's story but it can happen to anyone. Please don't mess with this.

I have a buddy, same age, same condition, and yeah, was in ICU within two days of getting sick. There’s definitely a trend where this isn’t an old person problem anymore.

Im a little neurotic, so will possibly regret posting this in about 5 minutes. CP does provide anonymity though, so maybe a little easier to share here as opposed to with friends or coworkers (most of whom I have not). I posted a little bit in the other thread, but with the few posts recently on "young" people and covid, thought I would expand-

Covid (post covid more specifically) has been rough on my wife's health, both mental and physical. And it has consequently been challenging for our marriage- which I am sure is common for families in quarantine.

My daughter got covid from her daycare and passed it onto my wife about a week later. Although the symptoms for my daughter were non existent and she was as energetic as ever the 4.5 weeks we were in quarantine, it hit my wife pretty hard and culminated in a pulmonary embolism and stay at the hospital. My son and I did not get it thankfully. My wife is young and healthy, and not sure we ever got a clear explanation on how covid caused the PE- it seems to happen occasionally though with young and healthy people post-covid; possibly some type of immune response to Covid antibodies? Seems to usually occur a week or two after you have recovered from the main infection period. And this is of course a different situation from hospitalized covid patients, who are often getting clots due to immobility.

Anyway, she was diagnosed with the PE about 5-6 weeks ago and continuing to deal with daily chest pains and breathing troubles. The recovery is expected to be maybe up to 18 months, but I believe there will always be an increased risk of future clots. And I don't want to go into great detail on this aspect, but it has all been extremely hard for my wife from a mental health standpoint- moreso than the physical implications.

We will come out of this eventually though, and certainly the experiences of others has been considerably worse. Just a bloody awful disease and time for everyone.

Why would you regret posting that?

Those are stories people NEED to hear. Not the ones that go "all I had was a headache, it's a scamdemic" etc

That sounds very difficult Flab.
Thanks for sharing and I hope she recovers fully soon without any lasting implications.

One of the things about this virus is you never know if you're actually "out of the woods".
My wife and I are feeling pretty good now and 8 days post first symptoms, but I keep reading stories like yours and realize something can still go wrong.

Correct. It seems that if anything does go wrong, it happens right about a week into infection as the immune system over-responds to an infection that it is struggling to control. That's where the systemic inflammation, blood clots, impaired kidney and brain function etc. all occur. If around 7-10 days in, no new or worsening symptoms occur? You're likely going to be fine, but it does seem to be random in many cases regardless of health status.

Best of luck everyone. I sincerely hope everyone recovers and has no lingering issues.

And Acey, I've been thinking about you and your dad for the past couple of weeks...a lot. We're all pulling for him, but more importantly we're thinking of you and your family.

Thank-you to everyone sharing their stories in there. I don't like coming into this thread as it's tough to read a lot of the time, but I come in here every day as I think it's important to see experiences from a community I've come to trust and value.

Acey, thank-you most of all for sharing such an open and raw view into what you and your family are going through. I think about you guys daily.

We will be ending life support tomorrow evening as they have now given him 0% chance of recovery. They have confirmed that I will be able to go, so my mom and I will be going at some point tomorrow. To some degree, I'm glad that I can just start really coming to terms with it now because it's been 27 days of just fearing the worst but not really knowing for sure.

Thanks again to everyone for the support. I wish it was a better outcome but I will never forget all the well wishes, messages, and just everyone that has been following along. I'm just trying to look at the good things, mostly the fact that my mom tested positive but made it through relatively unscathed so I haven't lost them both. As one of only a few child psychiatrists I know he made a big impact on the lives of a lot of adolescents down here, and at his church through music. He and my mom sacrificed so much and worked incredibly hard to bring my brother and I here from a very poor and high crime country. I know I shouldn't beat myself up but my own personal career plans are somewhat up in the air and I just wish he could have seen me established in something and doing well before he passed, because he worried a lot.

I'll maybe have more thoughts to add but I think that's it for now. Going tomorrow will be devastating and my mom is suggesting that I don't go, but I think in the future I will regret it. I have never experienced death in my family, my mom's mom died a year after I was born, and her dad died 10 years before that. My dad's parents are still alive in Trinidad, they're 94 and 95. I am 30 and I don't think I've ever been to a funeral. I feel like... I don't know how to grieve? Not sure that even makes sense.

I am sorry to read this and so sorry for your loss.

Honestly, I don't have any useful advice other than your comment "I don't know how to grieve". There isn't a right way to grieve. It is different for everyone, don't put that pressure on yourself.

Also, take care of yourself. Trust me grief sneaks up on you in the worst ways.

Again, my condolences.
