If you assume that everyone who is symptomatic got tested appropriately then I don’t think this vector would be concerning. The Husband would become infectious 2 days after getting it from the co-worker and the co-worker becomes infectious 2 days after the Husband. So you have a 4 day buffer from whenever the Co-worker became contagious.

I don’t believe that your co-worker has to self isolate as a close contact of a close contact. (Personally I would until the husband had a negative test but I can work from home). I would ask your coworker if her husband has any symptoms. If not you are very likely in the clear.

Ive worked with two co workers that had covid and at the time I was around them they had no side effects. They wore a mask as did I, and I never got covid. Once they became ill and were tested they had to self isolate, its amazing if your wearing a proper mask they do work.

Yep... it's several layers deep. In theory probably enough layers of separation to be considered ok. As we were ~6ft apart, nobody had any symptoms, all had spoken about only the dreaded isolation and lack of socialization, plus at the time nobody had had any known contact, we all chose not to wear masks, which we understood to be safe and reasonable.



Will know tomorrow (hopefully) if colleague's husband tests positive... and then it'll be colleagues turn to get tested, etc... Management did the "right" thing and has sent everyone home until there is more clarity. More to follow...

Trust me there will definitely be a learning from this. And I shared this not to get roasted but rather to show that there have been different interpretations and risk internal assessments based on varying degrees of understanding from health guidance over the past year. At several points it WAS deemed ok to be maskless at 6’. It still is... if you’re eating, drinking, certain school activities, outside activities, standing at bust stops, etc. we still see it every day. Just about Everywhere.

All of those things are supposed to be outdoors where air circulation makes it far less likely for the virus to travel in the air to you over a distance of 6 feet. It was never okay indoors to be maskless, even at 6 feet. Someone flat out missed this.

If you're seeing it in public it's because you can't force people to do what's recommended. I see it with my students as well. In the class they're really good about wearing masks at all times and keeping strict distance. Outside the class, they hang out in groups in close quarters and talk with their masks off. It's stupid, and I let them know it every time I see them do it.

What's crazy is that a group of them determined it was a good idea to be maskless. That's ludicrous and flies in the face of common sense and all guidance. There's no grey area there. How on earth could one person have missed the memo on this, let alone an entire group? No offense, but at this point in the pandemic that is beyond stupid and it puts us all at risk.

Yes this is a better spot so I will use this thread.

No real change in my dad, at one point they tried to reduce his sedation but it didn't go great so he returned to the original level of sedation, but overall stable. Almost every day so far in the ICU has been either stable, a very slight improvement, or no deterioration. So we're still just hoping for the best there.

My mom is feeling better each day but not quite 100%, so she's hoping to have a negative test result by Friday which I'm not quite sure will happen, but if it does I will go down to Lethbridge and stay with her in the house. At this point I'm mostly likely moving back to Lethbridge in the medium term but still a bit of a waiting game.

My mom's voice is back to sounding full normal though she still has slight shortness of breath. With her bronchitis and what not it might be a while before she's 100% but it looks like she's getting out of this mostly unscathed which is great.

Last night they were able to lower my dad's sedation in the ICU and he responded "well" though his oxygen levels dipped slightly. First time I've heard her say "that's a good sign" in response to one of his updates so that's good news. How his oxygen levels respond to the reduced sedation will be important today.

They are hoping to possibly reduce sedation today to a level where he may be able to open his eyes. Waiting for I believe a specialist physician later today but sounds like good news if they're even in the ball park to consider it.

It’s finally starting to hit my social circles. I know 20 people that have gotten it in the last week, including my mom. Everyone seems to be fine, with the worst I’ve seen being my mom, who’s described it as a very nasty cold. My buddy’s dad who is 82 got it, but it was pretty mild for him. Overall good, and I’m really curious to see how it affects the perspective in my closest social circle. I have a feeling that because everyone appears to be getting through completely unscathed it will confirm their bias that this is a nothing virus.

May not mean much with vaccines rolling out. However someone at work got it twice. The first time was like this above, the second time nearly killed them.

It was 6 months apart, but unless these folks are not getting vaccine it wouldn’t matter

20 people in your circle? Do you belong to a church? I mean that respectfully (sorry if it comes off any other way, it's hard to get things across properly online), but that seems like a church spread.

I believe it has a lot more to do with school spread combined with private gatherings. Our church has very low limits for attendance and out of all those infected, very few were at services together.

Curious why that would sound like church spread to you though. Virtually no churches are operating similar to grace life.

Not much change in status from me today, oxygen levels are going up and down under the lower sedation. Still just a waiting game at this point and hoping for improvement.
