Update:
4 year old never really had anything more than a slightly stuffy nose and very mild barking cough for a couple days. A few days after my 4 year old tested positive my 9 year old started complaining of a headache and had a mild fever so I took him and we both got tested (so I could return to work, no symptoms). I came back negative and he of course came back positive. He has been mildly feverish around bedtime for the past few nights and has a pretty wicked cough. He hasn't eaten much but seems to still have a decent amount of energy and the cough is improving. Never any difficulty breathing. My wife's cough got much worse so I suspect it was actually COVID. She did get a bit of fatigue as well. Thank god for vaccines is all I'll say. Pretty fortunate all in all.
I think it's an important PSA to reinforce the notion that some kids show very little symptoms and getting tested is never the worst idea. Had my wife not also been a bit under the weather I'm not sure we would've bothered getting my son tested. His temperature was never really high enough to be considered a fever and his sore throat never developed into anything else. He's had a mild cough since the fires, so that didn't concern us too much either.

Just found out an ex coworker in Edmonton passed away over the weekend. He had gone repeatedly to hospital late last week not feeling well but nothing was obvious and there was no room to keep him for observation so he was told to go home. He didn't make it back to hospital in time the final time.
Anyone who is not vaccinated by choice can go F themselves.

My cousin still has some lingering issues with her COVID but gave birth this week to a healthy baby boy who is apparently negative. Her other 2 kids only ever showed mild symptoms and are fine. She named the baby after my dad who died in April.

It's been a year so I feel the need to just post a quick life update if anybody even checks this forum anymore. After a couple months it really started to hit me and it was a struggle, I stopped exercising and tried to eat the grief away gaining about 30 pounds I'm still struggling to lose. My mom has stayed busy with the church down in Lethbridge and she spends a lot of time with my brother's girlfriend's parents so she's not alone.
I've got a pretty cool gig now with the WestJet social media team and I get to fly anywhere I want to go and take pictures of stuff which is pretty cool.
One thing I realized was that aside from my dad I didn't really have any friends and that's bad. So I've worked on trying to remedy that. I've just read through this whole thread and it's wild because I don't even remember writing some of my posts. The whole thing was just surreal.
Thanks again to any who reads this or helped me through it last year.

Thanks for sharing (again) Acey, it's been a tough year but sounds like you are making strides to move ahead. Glad to hear you are back in (still in?) the aviation field, it seems to be something you enjoy and that matters a lot.

I ended up testing positive on the weekend and my wife/kids a couple of days later. So far it's mostly been like a bad cold for everyone but on my end I've also lost smell/taste and that part has sucked. Sounds like it could take up to a month for that to return too. But overall could be worse I suppose.

Sunday evening I had what I thought were mild symptoms. Did a rapid test. Negative.
Monday went to work. Started feeling rougher. Came home and did another rapid test. Negative again.
Tuesday. Symptoms getting more worse. Chills. Aches. Headache, fatigue... Had a PCR test done. Did another rapid test. This time a barely visible faint positive line.
This morning. Woke up feeling like crap. Rapid tested again. Full dense no doubt line.
Short version. I had symptoms for 48 hrs before enough of a viral load to return a positive result. And even then it was a very thin faint line.
72 hrs into it and still febrile with aches, headache, lethargy and sore throat.

This was similar for me. Minor symptoms on a Sunday night/Monday morning, still very minor but I had started coughing by Wednesday, all while testing negative multiple times, including a PCR. My wife tested positive on the Monday, so I knew what I was dealing with.
My wife was quite a bit sicker than I was, but it was a moderate to bad flu with a few extra, but strange symptoms. It hit me in waves, I'd feel pretty good, then an hour later I'd feel like death. Seemed to last about twice as long as a normal flu, where I'd usually start feeling better after a couple days, it took a good 4 days of full on symptoms, so from the start of minor symptoms to where I started feeling better was about 7 days, with 3-4 rough days. My wife felt pretty rough for about 5/6 days.
My symptoms are pretty much gone, but if I breathe deep I will cough, my lungs feel like I've just run 2 or 3 laps at pretty much all times. It's still really early after being sick so I'm not particularly worried, but I can definitely feel it in my lungs.

I had a non-Covid cold which turned into bronchitis almost two weeks ago (multiple negative tests including a PCR). Had to go get antibiotics and steroids to help clear my lungs. Just finally starting to feel better and today my wife tests positive for Covid. Not really looking forward to getting Covid when I'm still recovering from something else.

I just tested positive for Covid this morning.
Feel kinda run down, itchy throat, dry cough, aches.
We'll see how this goes.

I can add fever to that list along with chills, sneezing, runny nose... not to mention my chest muscles hurting from the coughing and sneezing.
Fortunately I'm breathing fine, and haven't lost my sense of taste or smell yet.

Follow-up to this, my wife is on day 6 since testing positive and feels fine. She had a couple days of runny nose & exhaustion and no symptoms for the last 2 or 3 days. She’s been wearing an n95 in the house and we’ve slept in separate beds since Friday.
Neither my one year old or myself have any symptoms, and I’ve tested negative every day since Thursday. Fingers crossed that we somehow avoided spreading it within our house…

I had a bit of a cough yesterday. Nothing serious. I felt my throat getting sore, as it tends to do every year. I usually get a throat infection at some point.
I figured that was it. Took a NeoCitran went to bed early, woke up and checked my throat. Sure enough, it's white back there.
Before getting my son dressed for school I thought "I'll take a test out of an abundance of caution, the results will be there by the time we're ready to head out the door."
Swabbed my throat and up the nose.
Finished getting ready myself, went to get the little one and I see the test has 2 lines... positive.
I then took another test and called my wife who had already left for work.
She tested negative, my son tested negative. I'm now sitting on the couch in my own home wearing a mask. Kept the little guy home and he's got his mask on too.
I feel fine, mostly. No worse than a standard sore throat.
Called/texted/emailed everyone I was in close contact with over the last two days.
Honestly, I'd think a good night sleep and I'd be back to fine.
I'm hoping the vaccine continues to kick its ass and has me back to my normal self by the end of the week.
Until then, work from home and isolation. Ugh.

I've had this on and off for six months.
I've had probably a dozen PCR/NAT tests, and probably 30 rapid tests, ALL negative.
Travelled to the US a bunch of times since Dec 1, and quite frankly, I ceased taking precautions against Covid in like November 2021.
Don't even know what to think anymore. Maybe the republicans were onto something covid was a hoax this whole time.

I'm good now for the most part. Once the fever came on, it lasted a couple days then went away, leaving me with just some minor cold symptoms.
I've recently in the last day or so started getting a sore throat but nothing else to go along with it.

Popped positive Wednesday morning, The solution barely touched the rapid test before that T line started to form, no doubt about being infected. Was exhausted last Sunday, fine Monday but Tuesday evening I felt like I'd been hit by a truck. Did the test Wednesday morning.
That day and Thursday were pretty brutal, any energy I had was gone by just simply walking around for a minute, sneezing and some coughing, mostly a general sense of cloudiness. Loaded up on meds both nights, had a great sleep leading into Friday morning and by Saturday I was feeling better. Did a test this morning, was thorough, and it came up solid white besides the top line.
Still a lingering cough, but feel fine besides that. Those two days were the sickest I've ever felt however. Happy I have the two shots + booster and I'm a non-smoker.
