So sorry to hear about your loss Acey. Had to go back through the last four pages just to find the original post. Lots of people thinking of you and your family right now.

Gf received her first shot last Wednesday. Started experiencing symptoms on Friday. Took test on Monday and received results on Tuesday that she was positive for Covid-19. Has had quite bad flu symptoms and is still quite tired and achy. Bad timing, really, but she likely picked up the virus at the vaccination clinic as she is typically isolated and hadn't been in contact with anyone in the prior week.
PS - she is in Socal so not a local case.

Yeah it was the lead story on CBC Calgary page for a while. Just really surreal. We've been contacted a ton to see if we want to contribute to news stories, other doctors want us to try to sue, not sure for what exactly. It's just been a mess a today. My mom is not going to let them use him as a pawn against the government.

This #### pisses me off more than anything else. Stay strong Acey.
Once the first week or two passes, the best thing you could possibly do is go on a vacation with your family.
I had an experience when I was younger. My best friend's brother committed suicide, and when I say my best friend, I mean we were ridiculously close. I was basically a fixture in that household. Essentially family.
They decided the best thing to do was to take a trip to get away from things and only family were invited. That included me. It was surreal, but important. I can remember vivid moments during that trip of honest conversations, but also real healing taking place. I consider it an honor to have helped the family move on from that tragedy.
I only say this to give you a possible strategy for grieving. Everyone is different, and that may not be right for you, but I just thought I would share that experience anyways.
Our thoughts are with you.

Go on a vacation in a week or 2? A little tone deaf.

I don't find so. While not really logistical, my mom and I agree that what's making it very difficult is being in this house we've been in for 19 years with him. She had the virus already, and also got the vaccine. I know it'd personally help me immensely to be home in Calgary right now, this is the longest I've been away since 2016. I even miss jet noise from YYC... it's too quiet here.

Please know that most doctors (and most Albertans) are sad (and scared) to lose a colleague, a respected community member, and someone who is a father and husband. don't let those with other agendas get to you. its not the time or place for it.

Sorry for your loss, and thank you for sharing your journey over the past few weeks, I'm sure it must have been hard. We see numbers every day but following your experience here really makes it "real."

Thank you. Funeral was today. Some tough moments but overall it was good. Was planning to return to Calgary tomorrow for a day but the forecast 10-15 cm might push that to Monday. Me driving through snowfall warnings has always made her a bit nervous so I'll refrain from doing that in this case.

I had technical difficulties but I caught about half the service- I was able to hear the minister talk about your dad's professional calling and then how he'd show up sometimes at Saturday service after a rough day and the music would brighten him back up
I took away some good messages from it for me personally and enjoyed the music....hope you guys held up , thanks for sharing the link

I like jewelry so I got a music note necklace with his fingerprint engraved on the back and it arrived today. They keep the fingerprints on file so when I inevitably lose it I can order another piece.
I feel a weird obligation to continue posting here. Coming back to Calgary tomorrow for the day so that will definitely get my spirits up, but overall we're all doing okay. The legal maze of trying to get his medical corporation wound down has been insane, if my mom didn't make it through her COVID then my brother and I would have had a hell of a time trying to figure this all out.

Very pleased to report the my wife's cousin, who is truly like a brother to us, will be released from hospital in Montreal tomorrow, after nearly 3 weeks in hospital, including 2 weeks in ICU.
This guy is 45 yo and was strong and healthy as a horse, who got slightly winded during a 5 minute call this evening. We applied for compassionate entry when he was ICU but were denied.
Such relief today, combined with sorrow that not every covid story has ending. Let's still be good to each other and finish this strong.

Keep posting. It's the grieving process and we're hear to listen. Never feel like you're alone.

It's a bad mother####er, Covid is
Mama's cousin has not been released. His platelet count has dropped dangerously low (65) where normal is maybe about 150. Low platelets are a factor in covid morbidity, though why it results (sometimes) in low counts is unknown. There is no question they saved his life there though, for now anyway. That's the saving grace for people who are late to the covid party. He's definitely a patient that would not have made it were it not for what the medical community has learned at the unfortunate expense of the early patients. Fingers are crossed.
If I run across a denier in my travels today, I might punch them in the mouth.

You can see the initial account of what happened with my cousin's family in the morons thread, but this one seems more appropriate now.
After testing the whole family it turns out that 5/6 of them were positive for Covid. My cousin had no symptoms, her husband was hit pretty hard but is on the mend, and 3 of her kids had varying symptoms from stomach aches to generally not feeling well.
I haven't heard much in the way of an update on my uncle, but I believe he is doing okay.

I'm now 3 weeks since initially contracting covid. Though we never got really bad symptoms, I'm still getting some headaches and fatigue.
Having trouble getting out of bed before 10am each day which is very unlike me.
Back in the gym, long walks etc but can tell I'm not at 100% yet. Just trying to ease into things and not overdo it.
With allergy season kicking in, it's hard to know if it's just that or lingering covid symptoms.
