Can you give examples? What would the "woke left" be intimidating folks with?

Oh for sure!! Republicans in California have to put up with their neighbors who might love and support their gay or trans children (though they don't push this on their neighbors who wear red hats), or they'll have to watch these same librul parents get upset when those neighbors interrupt a reading session at the local library because it happened to be a drag queen reading to kids (they were armed, yeah, but so what? It's Murica!). Man. Those poor Republicans!

They get upset at the left's intolerance of the right's intolerance. They think it's hypocritical.

Yup.

It's that time of year where we have to remember that Santa Claus has all the same powers as the person in the sky, but it's ridiculous for anyone to believe in Santa past the age of 10.

Imagine thinking being intolerant toward groups of people, and being intolerant of hate, are even remotely comparable let alone the same thing.

Yet here they are, getting ready for a run off vote next week because neither candidate got the minimum 50% required and 48.5% of Georgians voted for him.

I wonder how Yoho can support this kind of behavior.

Interesting results over the weekend in Taiwan where the opposition KMT party won 13 out of the 21 total elections in the country, leading to the President, Tsai Ing Wen to resign as the party's leader the same night. She made a point leading up to election day framing it as being about "resisting China". My cousin and his family live in Taiwan and voted for the KMT, as they support peaceful reunification (but want it to be one country, two systems style) and do not want war with China under any circumstance.

So, the Taiwan elections were for local positions - mayors, city councilors etc. Everyone was anticipating the KMT doing well in these elections and they slightly exceeded expectations. The DPP was anticipating a bad night as most of their best candidates were term-limited out of running again.

Lots was written before the election about not reading too deeply into the results regarding the attitude of Taiwan's population regarding the two main party's positions re: China. Local elections tend to be about local politics, and the KMT have a very powerful local machine (which involves a LOT of vote-buying through temples and other social organizations).

That Tsai Ing Wen resigned her position (as leader of the Party, not President) is totally normal. This is, in fact, the third time she has resigned this post, doing it twice before after poor showings in local elections, only to be reselected after winning the Presidency.

Some of the best analysis I've seen has predicted the emergence of a new voting block in Taiwan, the "Safe, conservative block." This should not be understood as conservative in the western style, both the DPP and KMT are largely centre-left in their social and fiscal policies. Rather, it's about governance. Voting KMT locally is "conservative" in that they are generally seen as more competent & experienced in governing (and, again, are powerful socially at the local level). Voting DPP at the national level is "safe" in that it will keep China at arms-length.

The vast, vast majority of Taiwanese favor the "status-quo," as very few people actually want open conflict with China. Most recent polls, however, indicate that, if push came to shove, Taiwanese favor fighting over reunification.

I think Tsai Ing Wen will be at her term limit anyways, so she was going to be on the way out as president in 2024 regardless of the results in these elections or her position as party leader. It will be interesting to see what happens when those elections come around. Still plenty of time for things to change and develop in conditions that will influence voters one way or the other between now and then.

As always, the context and the nuances of people's lives will create a much more complex reality than the story told in most North American media.
