I'm back to traveling for work (and loving it - hate working from home) and have been flying between Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver weekly for about 6 weeks and will pick it up again after the Christmas break in the new year. During covid, I decided I'd wear a mask going forward on planes (and anywhere else that is tight quarters with lots of people) and have done so on every flight in the last number of weeks. No bother to me though as I don't have any issues breathing with them on and a bonus is it hides my gaping mouth when I'm asleep in my seat! I'm surprised that it seems about 20% of the passengers were wearing masks too - thought it'd be much less. I know I'm losing my freedom by wearing a mask, but it's all good...

Got our first kid’s passport today. Submitted in August, so 4-5 months of waiting. We did not have travel booked, so there was no rush, but it is nice knowing we have it just in case we decide to head anywhere in 2023. Now just waiting for ki #2’s to arrive.

So annoying. I don't see how that makes any difference covid-wise, but if countries start doing this again, it makes travel a lot more difficult for everyone.

I think this'll be a short term measure - it already said it was a 30 day time period. But apparently a flight from China to Italy had like 50% positivity...

It doesn't matter if it's short-term. It's pointless regarding covid and it causes travel issues. Why only China? I think Canada is doing this because they're afraid to go against other countries who implemented it. There is no health-related reason that it makes any sense.

It's only China because they recently removed almost all of their restrictions and Covid-19 is now spreading much more rapidly as a result, though they were smart to do this during the much more mild Omicron vs. the decision by the US to do the same thing during the more deadly Delta strain.

China currently requires a PCR test before entering their country, so they can stfu. Plus China have had much stricter restrictions entering their country throughout this whole ordeal. China's handling of covid have been a terrible disaster.

Was recently reading that the US has extended the vaccination requirement for international flight travel up until Apr 10th 2023.
This is purely a formality though, correct? Is there any indication there is a renewed effort to check vaccinations? I know that a few posters here have flown to Hawaii in Dec 2022 with no mention of vaccinations and were not asked to show proof.
I'm all good but I also bought a flight for my brother to Maui, he has zero shots.

I clicked on an attestation during my online checkin 2 weeks ago (also Maui) without even looking at it. I assume that might’ve been where you said you had your vax. Nobody ever asked for anything about it otherwise.

Good to hear, I'll tell my dip#### brother to click yes and shut his mouth.
I'll really need to control myself and not go off on him for his conspiracy nonsense and vaccine refusal, it's really disappointing he's falling for all that.
Update for anyone who might check this thread for info. It is very rare but US customs does in fact still ask for proof of vaccination. Source: friend who travels very often to the US. Not worth it giving false information to customs and my brother has refused to get his shots so he's staying home.
Feb 9th 2023: The House of Representatives has passed a bill that would remove the requirement for most foreign travelers coming to the U.S. to be vaccinated against COVID-19. It doesn’t mean travelers can now enter without a vaccine, the bill still needs to pass through the Senate and Biden for approval.
