Between Price, Hart and Binnington, Canada's goaltending looks suspect at best. The three of those guys averaged like 90.0% last season.

I doubt any Flames will make Team Canada, but I wonder if any will even make the 50 player short list that needs to be announced in a couple of weeks? I assume Monahan is the most-likely and Mangiapane would be a long shot.

Good thing the reigning Vezina Trophy winner is available.
At this point, you have to assume that barring injury, Price and Fleury will be the top 2 and the third spot is the only one that's up for grabs.

I think none, of course, but IMO the player mostly likely to be considered would be Tanev, just as a defensive specialist RHD.

USA has a definite edge in goaltending...Gibson/Hellebuyck have a floor much higher than the CAD guys, and their ceiling is just as high.
D is pretty close to a toss-up
Slavin-Carlson
Werenski-Jones
Hughes-McAvoy
McDonagh-Fox
Pesce - could see him paired with Slavin
Makar is probably the best overall, and a Theodore-Pietrangelo pairing probably has the edge over any of the above, but the margins are pretty slim.
Compared to 2014 where Weber, Doughty, Keith were in their prime + Pietrangelo, Bouwmeester, Vlasic, Hamhuis, Subban
vs. Suter...McDonagh, Faulk, Fowler, Shattenkirk, Orpik, Martin, Carlson (age 24, career high 37 pts at that point)
Only Suter could have made TC then...much closer this time.

Yep, these guys...Zadorov is in for sure though
I've see Rasmus on most projections too
So 5+ assuming everyone is healthy...pretty good I think
Oh, and Eichel

I would think these guys for sure:
Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Zadorov, Lindholm, Markstrom
Possibles:
Backlund, Andersson, Valimaki (not sure what the Finnish D looks like - more likely a long shot)
Longshots (no chance, but might get consideration):
Hanifin, Coleman, Tanev

My Sweden:
Forsberg- Backstrom-Nylander
Landeskog-Zibanejad-Lindholm
Olofsson-Pettersson-Hornqvist
Lots of options to fill out the rest; I wonder if they'd move Pettersson to the wing to roll both EE and Backlund at C.
Arvidsson-Backlund-Jarnkrok
W Karlsson-Eriksson Ek- M Johansson
Silfverberg-Wennberg-Rakell
Fast-Rask-Lindblom-Sundqvist
Rasmus will have to have a great year and for EK to have his inevitable injury. I'm not even sure if Dahlin is a lock for the 6 D (lots of LHS, and Ekholm is more used to off-side)
Hedman Klingberg
Brodin E Karlsson
Lindholm Ekholm
Dahlin Larsson
OEL Andersson
Forsling Boqvist
Brannstrom
Markstrom
Lehner
Ullmark

FIN could have a very good top 6, but the bottom half falls off quite a bit
Laine - Barkov - Rantanen
Teravainen - Aho - Donskoi
Hintz - Granlund - Kapanen
Kakko - Kotkaniemi - PullRV
Lehkonen
Tolvanen
Haula
Armia

I might be missing someone, but Finnish D is kinda up for grabs:
Lindell- Heiskanen
???-Ristolainen
???-???
Maatta
Valimaki
Vatanen - not sure if he's really fallen off, or if staying in EU was his choice...
Jokiharju
Juolevi
Nutivaara
Heinola

"Hockey Canada has submitted a "long list" of six goaltenders under consideration for the Olympics, sources told Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic. The six are Carey Price (Montreal), Marc-Andre Fleury (Chicago), Darcy Kuemper (Colorado), Jordan Binnington (St. Louis), Carter Hart (Philadelphia) and Mackenzie Blackwood (New Jersey)."

Adam Ruzicka will almost certainly be going for the Slovaks, maybe Marty Pospisil too.

Not a lot of confidence in these names
If Price was good to go, I would be more relieved…without him every one of them has red flags.
I can’t remember such a weak group of goalies for Canada.

Have to say we're 4th of the big boys when it comes to goaltending:
Vasilevskiy (Varlamov/Shesterkin/Khudobin/Bob/Samsonov)
Hellebuyck/Gibson (probably Demko for the experience)
Lehner/Markstrom (Ullmark)

Canada literally has the most recent Vezina trophy winner and a guy who just carried a mediocre Habs team to the Stanley Cup final.

Except one of those guys is injured+ with no timetable for return (AFAIK), and the other is about to turn 37, has lost the net to an aforementioned Swede in each of the last two playoffs*, and is off to a very rough start this year.
* to be fair it's not like MAF pooped the bed; he didn't allow >3 goals in any game in either of those playoffs.
Vasi won the Conn Smythe. Hellebuyck had better playoff numbers than MAF (of course he didn't have to face TB)

I hate to say it, but if Mike Smith is hot and healthy I would actually maybe possibly consider him for that type of tournament
