Flames nation article: PCS winners and losers on draft day
Edit : can't seem to change the title to Flames Nation. Stupid phone.
http://flamesnation.ca/2015/7/3/pcs-...the-2015-draft
Interesting read. I've never heard of pcs before. This article reads that the Flames killed it at the draft. Not shockingly the bruins rated awful at pcs
What's pcs?
Read the article. It's a very long read but fascinating stuff.

The Flames nailed day two of the draft, grabbing CanucksArmy favorites Rasmus Andersson, Oliver Kylington, and Andrew Mangiapane much later than they were expected to be available. Combining a solid draft with the addition of Dougie Hamilton makes for an outstanding weekend for the Flames. The Pacific division got a lot scarier this weekend.

I love guys that run data around, but in this case, the "winner" would be the team that took the guy falling the most every single round, and I've seen in other studies that the opposite is true;
that is, teams that have conviction do better than teams that take the falling stars every round.
I love the Kylington pick, but I won't deny the risk in taking a guy that has fallen that far. Rico Fata was a similar story in 1998. Sometimes there is a big reason not to select a player at any point.

Not all guys are fallers though they are using the criteria PSC/%/Overall etc. If a team took them earlier then their ranking then they're a loser. If a team took them after then they're a winner.
A guy like Maniapane was rated higher with this system but we took him later.
Interesting study. Would like to read more on it.

I don't know why anyone would ever think Rico Fata was a bad pick, he wasn't a risk, he was a pure reward <3

The Flames from the era were VERY rewarding, although no one Fata'd like Rico

They need to weight for overall quality of pick, too. It's funny that the Bruins are ranked 28th or whatever after moving a bunch of players for picks, but let's not pretend that the Flames' prospect pool is more improved than a team that selected 13th, 14th, and 15th, even if those picks were slight reaches at the time.

Interesting that Kylington's PCS delta is exactly zero: that is, their model says the Flames took him exactly when he should have been drafted. He isn't rated any higher on account of falling.
