All the other teams' jerseys seem to consistency be a pallete swap of a retro jersey, so I can't see it being a black Blasty jersey with a logo or striping update.

Seems more likely that it's a black pedestal jersey for the base, maybe with the horsehead logo?

This lines up pretty well with what I was thinking, but I did have a couple of differences...

I had Dallas and Minnesota reversed because the Wild joined the league in 1999, but that's also the year the Stars won the Cup, so the date works for both. The North Stars redesigned their jerseys in 78, so it also works for either team. The Wild in North Stars colours and the Stars wearing a version of their "Star" jersey but in current colours would both be pretty sweet.

I also had Ottawa and Vegas flipped from this. 92 makes more sense for the Sens since that's the year they joined the league. Neither number makes sense for Vegas, so that's a wash.

I had the Rangers and Habs flipped, but I think he's right. 1996 was when the Rangers debuted the Statue of Liberty jersey and the 1977 Habs still hold the record for most points in a season.

----------

Upon further review, I think the only ones he might be wrong on are Ottawa and Vegas being reversed, but other than that, I think he's correct.

Besides the Flames, I think the one I'm most-curious to see in the gradient jersey from the Canucks in their current colours.

Also, I really hope the Sabres are going to have a blue and yellow version of their red "crossed swords" alternate. I loved that jersey but hated the colours for Buffalo.

- Black pedestal

- Black 98 alternate with current striping

Of course it could be none of those things, but 98 seems like an obvious clue and not just a random number. I don't think a black 89 or a black 13 is at all likely.
From what I can tell league wide it is based on the colors or style from that year, with something flipped or reversed. So yes, some element of the 1998 Flames uniform set has changed.

They had white pedestal, red pedestal and black Blasty as jersey choices in 1998. Therefore, Black Blasty coming back as it was in 1998 isn't a flip of anything, was my point.

So what do they flip, if the color looks to be black?

I guess they could do black Blasty with a 1989 striping pattern as the switch, but that doesn't sound "enough" of a flip. Also not "enough" IMO would be just a recolored Blasty logo on the black jersey (as the Oilers may be doing) on their white and orange jerseys.

This is absolutely bonkers.

Flames bringing back Blasty?
Canucks doing a green gradient jersey?
Sharks going grey?
North stars back?
Arizona has a purple jersey?

As a jersey nerd Monday is going to be amazing. So many obscure and fun concepts out there.

It looks like Icethetics updated his predictions with Ottawa and Vegas swapped, so now I fully agree with this...

With the Oilers going white and the Flames going black, I assume we'll see the two going head-to-head at some point this season.

I wonder if the league will want both teams to wear reverse retros, like in 95 when the games were on Fox and the Flying Ducks played Burger Kings, or avoid both teams showing off them at the same time.

Not sure what the Isles are flipping, though they already tried the orange jersey.
Capitan Highliner on the old striping set? Complete with custom number fonts?

By my count there’s 13 teams going for a white/yellow/grey colour, so if they do rivalry games we might see a few games without white uniforms, which I’ve always been in favour of.

I don’t know why the Flames and Oilers both couldn’t wear red and blue respectively.

I will be kind of annoyed if it's a black jersey with the C in the middle and Blasty on the shoulders. I don't want them just to swap logo position.

Now a black pedestal jersey....that would be something.

If it were a pedestal, though, wouldn't the number be 94 or 95?

If those numbers do correlate to the year the jersey debuted, it has to be ol' blasty.

If it's just that the jersey was used in that year, it seems to me like it would be a black pedestal jersey.

They have Tampa listed as '04 - and Tampa didn't debut a jersey in '04. They had the same jersey from '01-'07.

Fair.

I'll just be disappointed if this jersey is just them flipping the Horsehead and the Flaming C on the same 1998 jersey.

Feel like that's a bit of a cop out. And if they did that then I don't get why it wouldn't just say 00 or 03. Because really that would be a flip of the red/white jerseys from 03/04, not a reverse retro of Blasty.

I'm still holding out faith that the color in this teaser is a distraction and it's going to be a Red Blasty.

Some of the years seem to correspond to milestone years for the team too. Tampa went to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in 2004.

That also matches with Florida and 1996.

I questioned that as well. If it's not the year they debuted, then what is the significance of the number? Why 98 out of all the other years that jersey may have been used?

In Tampa's case they could be saying it's the return of their Cup jersey?

...who knows, I guess we'll find out soon though.

I imagine we'll get one of two things:

- Black jersey with Ol Blasty on shoulders, C on chest.
- Black pedestal jersey

I don't imagine that Scorp was flat out "lied" to when he was told that the jersey won't be a black 'ol blasty jersey.
