Smith could likely use a bit of a rest. He hasn’t been that great the last few games.

Not really comfortable with the prospect of Lack having to start multiple games. Maybe this could be Rittich's chance if he's called up.

Every NHL arena has an emergency goalie on staff. The Flames have 3 or 4 guys who rotate through the position during the season. I think last night was a former U of C goalie on standby.

For those wondering, #Flames do not practice and just flap their wings to Detroit for tomorrow's game. Report from #Flames GM Brad Treliving this AM was that Mike Smith "probably" will travel.

I imagine that Jon Gillies will be called up if Mike Smith is out for a little while.

Dammit.... that requires the use of Polyjuice Potion.

No. Gaskal missed an s on the end of put to make puts.
One little letter makes a huge difference.

Any further word on this? Can we assume that Mike Smith made the flight this AM?

Smith needs to rest anyway, so even if he travels, I hope he doesn't play. Will be very surprised if he suits up, but I suppose that will mean he's good to go.
We're going to need this guy big time as the season gets more and more serious, so why not give him a breath? The team is clicking big time so if there's a time that they can probably get by on average goaltending, it's now.

I think its time for a little Eddy Lack anyway.
I like the idea of riding Smith as the Flames seem to be finding their groove, but they need to see what they have in Lack. Is he a legit#2? Or do they need to have Gillies and Rittich on speed dial.
I think Darryl Sutter said it best way back in the Phil Sauve era: The backup's job is to simply win hockey games. Your #1 goes through the ups and downs of a season with the team, but the #2s job is to come in and win hockey games.
I am ready for the legend of Lack.

Yeah, in fairness for all of Treliving's 'Smith is a low-mileage goalie' they've been riding him hard and putting him away wet. I hope his injury isnt serious because we'll need him, but its time to start letting some other guys start carrying the load.
The biggest issue really, is his puck-movement. Its almost become part of the team's system, it'll take time to transition away from that.

If his injury was serious enough, he wouldn't be suiting up even as backup and with the Calgary game tomorrow, the team would have had to announce a call up by now I think, given they'd want the guy up with the team in Detroit tonight.
So, no announcement hopefully means good news on the Smith front??

Honestly, Gulutzan probably should've rested Smith a couple games ago. He's getting a different injury every game.

He got injured because a guy fell on his head...no amount of rest prevents that

Also, he's gotta be banged up because he's been hurt in different ways in each of the last few games. He can't play 82 games
