I think we should call it "pulling an Oilers", since the Oilers made the finals in 2006 and then didn't make the playoffs aftewards.

Both Edmonton and Carolina missed the following year.

Panthers made the finals in their 3rd year. Made the POs 5 times in the next 23 years (never past round 1). This year the Devils will have made the POs once in 9 years since they were in the finals (lost in round one 3 years ago).

The Devils did that, winning the Cup in 1995 and not making the playoffs the next season. The previous time was the Habs winning in 1969 and not making it the next season.
