My wife's grade 2 class was supposed to do the egg hatching project. There's a program through Dalhousie's Argricultural Campus that sends the incubator, eggs, and things you need to hatch the eggs, then they take the chicks back.
Unfortuantely due to a rise in COVID cases, the schools are closed. But they closed after the project started.
So what would a lowly Grade 2 teacher do? Unplug the incubator, toss the eggs, and send the equipment back?
No.
The lowly Grade 2 teacher would take everything home, set it up in the spare room, then get the school board to get her video streaming equipment and stream it online.
*note the livestream went down so they had to start it over, it's a new link

We did this in grade 1 and only 2 of the eggs actually hatched. The teacher took us outside to the sand box and cracked open the ones that didn't hatch and showed us the dead chicks. She then went on to blame certain kids for being too loud all the time and said that is what killed them. It was pretty effed up for a teacher to do that.

That sounds really crappy; sounds like a terrible teacher. On a different note on incubation, it's actually really important to move the eggs to mimic normal movement as if a hen was sitting on them. If they sit in one spot, the egg yolk will contact the side of the egg and it dries up (the egg shell is permeable to air, and allows gas exchange to occur). Lights should be off too. There are a number of variables to consider when it comes to hatching chickens...

The first crack shows up around around 2:14pm mountain time. So figure out how long ago that was, then go back in the live stream that amount of time to watch the miracle of life. The hatching takes about 30 minutes until the little one is free.
I've gotten carried out from the stampede that way before! I asked for directions for the elbow river casino and it escalated quickly. I called it getting carried out like Jesus while getting threatened to be curb stomped.
