Double nom for ScarJo.
Would love to see Jojo Rabbit take home best picture. I'm guessing it gets Writing and potentially Production Design. Surprised not to see Waititi nominated for Directing as well.

Little Women was excellent, surprised Gerwig wasn't nominated for direction.

I feel bad for Sandler being ignored by the Academy. Phoenix is gonna win it, no doubts, but still, Sandler's performance in Uncut Gems was nothing short of spectacular.

I haven't seen it yet but how the heck is Tom Hanks nominated for a supporting role. Isn't the film literally about Mr. Rogers?

I feel out of touch with Joker. It was a good movie, but 11 nominations? ehhh

I saw that this morning too. I hope Parasite wins best picture. Best movie I've watched in the past 20 years.

The journalist interviewing Mr. Rogers is a lead role in the movie.

The actual lead role is Henrietta

Honestly I'm pretty disappointed with the lack of love for Endgame. I really don't see a difference between that and something like LOTR or Star Wars or Jaws. It was an unprecedented undertaking and industry changing event, and a hell of a movie with great performances, iconic music, groundbreaking VFX etc. What is it missing? Marriage story made you cry? Endgame made me cry too, so what?

Endgame/Silvestri should have been nominated for original score. But I get the sense that Marvel movies have endeared themselves to the Hollywood old guard/Academy voters far less successfully than LOTR did. I'd be willing to bet it's all because of the time period of the source material. Tolkien is likely seen as far more "classic," and therefore respectable, in the eyes of the Academy.

Marvel scores don't get nominated because they're boring and repetitive.

Generally speaking I agree but the Endgame score was excellent. It interwove all the best themes from the individual movies at individual character moments, and Silvestri introduced really good new tracks for key moments in the movie. "Portals" and "The Real Hero" are both more than Oscar-worthy.

What's missing? Nothing. It's a formulaic throw everything against the wall superhero movie and it doesn't help that they resorted to time travel which has been done much better by other movies. It's what a lot of moviegoers want to see just like a lot of gamers can't get enough of Call of Duty but that doesn't mean it's great cinema.

Hmm weird. I don't remember a theatre full of people cheering when the theme hit for Little Women.

That's an interesting requirement. I can't say I've ever seen anyone cheering for any theme besides maybe Star Wars.

Black Panther was just nominated for best picture last year at the Oscars so it's not like they won't include MCU films. I thought End-Game was great and would have liked a best picture nomination but maybe the Academy didn't want to include 2 comic book films and IMO (remember this is just my opinion) Joker was the stronger film. At least it can join The Dark Knight & Logan now as best superhero films that should have been nominated for Best Picture but weren't.
