Captain America has regurarly worked for S.h.i.e.l.d. in the comic books, so yeah, this would make a ton of sense.

He fits the power scale well and his background would make him a good "straight man" for comedic effect, but also someone who could have interesting arguments with pretty much all the other characters (ideology vs. cynicism with May orDalton, vigilantism / authority with Coulson, conservative / liberal with Skye).

But in general I agree; the show was just "meh". By which I mean, unpolished. The "Smallville" comparison is totally appropriate. Other than guys like Gregg and Ron Glass (who can't help but be awesome at everything) the cast was generally unable to make what they were given work. Looking through, other than Gregg and the Asian pilot lady, they seem to be pretty inexperienced actors. I watched the Avengers before I watched the show and the comparison was obviously laughable.

There's so much potential for cameos, though. Just tons.
Its sad. I agree that this was the show that Whedon was meant to have, but now its come to him when he doesnt have the time to dedicate to it.

I liked the second episode. They clearly got a pretty nice budget for effects. The acting was a little better then the opener.

Coulson really carries this show. But evil hacker girl is very good.

What a difference a week makes. The second episode of marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fell to a 3.1 adults 18-49 rating from last week's huge 4.7.

It was a better episode but they need to ramp up the Marvel universe references and appearances. We want to see superheroes.

I think it'll take a bit of time for each actor to find their character's groove. The premise will certainly keep me tuned in. This and the Goldbergs makes for a soild Tuesday night of TV for me.

If people are watching for superheroes, they're bound to be disappointed.

I don't want a superhero on the team or anything but a few interactions with one or two of the hundreds of superheroes on that planet would be cool.

Then again, this is the cinematic universe, not the comic universe so I guess they're not as many heroes in this universe.

I guess I just want them to interact with characters from the comics. Bring in a few C list villains or heroes to showcase for an episode or two.

Smallville was more fun when they were bringing in Smallville versions of characters from the comics. That's why it was able to last 9 seasons.

Bottom line to me is that this show is more fun to watch than many others. So I like it.

Yeah, but Smallville had the advantage of being it's own independent world and if anything was trying to expand with attempted spinoffs like Aquaman.

Shield exists in a world where it's second fiddle to the much much much more profitable Marvel movies. And first they need to have the rights of the heroes or villains and a lot of the characters we know associated with S.H.I.E.L.D. are owned by Sony and Fox. Although Marvel's grabbed back some rights lately with Daredevil, Ghost Rider, Punisher and Blade. And then they have to decide that the characters aren't better used in the movies, which will pretty much limit this show to c-list characters and cameos. Can't imagine Hydra not coming into play probably puppeteering Rising Tide but any other fanfare will have to come with more obscure characters I'd imagine.

Although if this show does show some more main characters, Coulson being The Vision would be my bet. It's not the right origin story but super Coulson's mysterious backstory will hopefully not just end up being LMD.

I have a feeling the mystery behind Coulson will not go down the LMD / Vision path. He keeps referring to Tahiti as a "magical" place. That's probably more literal than it should be.

That's the only good thing about this job, but also part of the reason it's not very good. It feels like it should be on the CW network.

So 6 agents crew the entire C-5 Galaxy sized plane? Who guards the thing on the ground?

Fun fact - Ming Na Wen is 49. She must have days on set with these kiddies when she curses her agent and looks at her pay stub.

Nowhere near as riveting as Season 1 of Heroes, but I'll still watch it on the PVR.
