There are always picks who look better in hindsight but at the time people were shocked that the Jackets passed on Puljujarvi. Turned out it was a great pick, they got their guy who at 22 is playing as #1C with a good all around game and is showing up huge when it matters, nice hat trick tonight.

he is a fine player...I just thought "best draft pick in recent memory" might be a stretch

He had a great game

Okay, I mean best pick in recent memory would probably be Datsyuk. I meant a team "going off the board" and it paying off big.

It looks somewhat likely that the 16 playoff teams won't include McDavid, Draisaitl, Crosby, Malkin, Matthews, or Marner. Who would have thought? A majority of the top 20 scorers in the league missing the playoffs! Just goes to show that offense is somewhat overrated in today's NHL.

Absolutely. it goes to show that offensive bias in building a team isn't a path to success.

Goes to show that these teams built on massive cap hits for a few players don't have the depth to win in the playoffs. Exception being the Pens who are just getting old and their goalie has gone downhill fast. Who knew that paying half of your cap for 4 players and filling out the other 19 with the other half is a bad strategy?

It's interesting, but in a year like this where guys aren't fully in shape, I'm not sure losing those players shows that offense isn't the way forward. Each year keeps getting more offense-centric. This year may or may not be an anomaly.

The only player that should be making 10+ million on the Leafs is Mathews. The Leafs biggest problem is D. Dubas has still yet to understand that you can't fill gaps on the back end with the likes of Ceci, Marincin, Hall, etc. Even Reilly is a massive liability. Goals 2, 3 and 4 are all on the defence making preseason mistakes but in a do or die playoff series. You would think they would learn from the last 3 playoffs but the defence makes the same mistakes over and over and over again. Its hilarious to watch.

Well, it's a good thing no one ever said that:

wow, that analysis of Morgan Reilly was as bad as anything I have ever seen.

Anthony talking about him stepping up and they proceed to show 2 minutes of him floating, getting caught, and making a brutal pinch that somehow 'wasn't on him'

We don’t get analysis in Canada.

We get cheerleading for media darlings.

Petterson is irrelevant, because not a lot of teams had him as high as third.
