Its always funny because for my dog this type of snow is like 'Cold Velcro.'
It gets into his paws, clings to his body and...he's a dog. I think he believes that I control the weather.
"Why would you do this?"
Some dogs love the cold and snow. Some just dont understand it. My dog is the latter.
"Why do you make the outside world so inhospitable for me?"
Because I am an evil Master! Thats why!! Mwahahahaha!!!
Really though...dude, just do your business, come back and we can watch the Flames game. Yes. The thing on the screen with the black thing you can't get.
Sorry bud.
The thing is, by my office they make a little skating rink and I take a puck and throw it so my dog can get it and bring it back and we play fetch. So he believes that he can always 'get the puck.' Except when its on TV it kind of drives him nuts.
Its actually quite funny.

5 times a plow/grader has drive up and down my street today. Residential non-through single wide roadway and they clear this street like it’s the QE2.
Meanwhile everywhere in the NE where I see people all the time walking in the road because the the sidewalks and #### next to transit stops are never cleared.
It’s weird man.

I'll fill in. I wish it was hotter.
Went for our weekly hike this morning. "Eastern" Columbia River Gorge (near Hood River) to avoid the rain/snow in the western side, but it was still a lousy 2C when we started. Few flurries on the hike as well, but at least it was sunny for most of it. Thousands of early season flowers out too so, temperature aside, was nice to have a bit of spring-like experience after a week of well below normal temperatures and rain. Should be hitting highs around 12-15C right now but had about 3 inches of rain and several days where it didn't get above 6C this past week.

I am really pleased with this snow. Will all the talk of drought, a snow pack to start the spring is a good thing. I can't remember the exact number but something like 70% of Central Alberta's ground moisture comes from our snowpack.

One of those times I'm again amused/annoyed at how nobody here seems to know what a rear fog light is.
Perfectly clear conditions, European car owners: "These little buttons are my 'look cool' light buttons, I shall push them and look cool" - drives around with one very bright rear taillight looking like an idiot.
Complete whiteout or fog conditions, European car owners: "No one behind me can see me. If only there was a solution for this. Wait, I know!" - drives around with hazard lights on.

Just had a 20 minute phone survey for businesses from the City of Calgary Water Services. Lots of questions about impacts on business if water restrictions have to be enacted, and measures you are taking to reduce water use currently or in the past.
City could be getting ready to jump gun right away to reduce usage this year.

Interesting because I thought that the main issue was more northerly and in the south we were in pretty good shape now?

The maps above relate to soil moisture, the big problem is the water supply in the basins, with shortages already occurring.
For farmers, come spring melt it's an unknown how much potential moisture there will be and how much the soil will take. That moisture only lasts for a short amount of time as well. For cities, we care more about the supply for the rivers, but that will also effect agricultural lands that rely on canals.
It looks like the last few days have left 1m or snow on the snowpack, with some stations now reading above the lower quartile, but still low. Some are still far far below. It will be harder to fill the reservoirs, and if a dry spring/summer occur, then outflows will immediately have to be rationed to have what water is retained to last as long as possible.

For me it's like one or the other that I find annoying. -5° and plenty of snow I don't mind. -20° and clear I don't mind. But both together are annoying.
Apparently we're in on the verge of a water crisis so I guess we need all the moisture we can get.
